This really is a smart bit of kit, and I've only used half of it so far: Transmit.

Let me set the scene. We have an old LCD TV in the bedroom that just refuses to die! Thanks to a Sky Q puck it's now Smart-ish, but it lacked the extras from a modern TV; the main one being bluetooth headphone support.

Now don't get me wrong, I like 'Orange is the new black' as much as the next guy, but not on the 13th episode in a row, and not when I'm in another room so getting the Radio Edit.

This little box velcro-attaches to the back of the TV, effortlessly links to bluetooth headphones, and just... works! As a massively added bonus it has Optical In, which means the headphones and tv speakers can work in tandem. What's the point? Ever watched TV with someone who wanted it a different volume to you? Problem solved. TV speakers operate at a normal volume, headphone-wearer has it at whisper or yell.

So now the old TV outputs through the speaker by default, but flick the headphone power on and turn the TV volume down (bluetooth volume is via the box and/or headphones) and you've got a self contained system. Good job.

I'm using this to stream sound from a Sony Bravia TV to some headphone for an elderly relative. Sony (like a lot of TV manufacturers) have locked the devices it can stream to to being only made by Sony. This device allows me to take a simple source from the headphone 3.5mm jack and broadcast it to any Bluetooth device, such as some headphones.

He's elderly and struggles to hear the TV unless it's on loud enough to deafen everyone else.

Connection was simple. Pairing was easy too.

This device doesn't just act as a transmitter though, it can act as a receiver, bringing old hardware into the modern age.

In my case power was easily supplied just by using one of the USB ports on the back of the TV. That's important because this doesn't come with a power source of its own. USB sockets are everywhere these days and anything made in the last 15 years should be able to supply 1A just fine.

Build is fairly good. The LCD screen gives you all the information you need and is easy to understand. The volume dial feels a little lightweight but as long as you don't go abusing it it should last just fine.

I only used the 3.5mm audio jack, but I see there are optical in and out connectors.

Range seems fine for the distance used here. I live in a typical double-bricked house, in a typically crowded RF environment and it can pick up the Bluetooth signal in any room.

Seems to perform as the manufacturer claims. Not a bad little thing at a reasonable price.
