    For a 2-disc collection that is.

    Two and half hours of music, 39 tracks in chronological order spanning 18 years from 1969-1987, is about as good a Santana collection as you can indeed squeeze on two CDs. It hits all the high points though inevitably some favourites will be omitted because Santana has just such a huge back catalogue. As an introduction to Santana's alternative Latino rhythm-based guitar rock I can't see it being bettered.

    This is seriously good stuff.

    I should note that an alternative collection is The Essential Santana which is cheaper, has a slightly different track list, and is seven tracks fewer. This collection is better but you pays your money ...

    I hasn't listened to much Santana but bought the CD based on the few songs I had heard. I was disappointed as I didn't really like the rest of the album. Think there was about 3 / 4 songs I liked off the album. Someone who is more of a Santana fan would probably love it but I bought it with a view to liking Santana more but realise it's not totally my kind of music.

    Tras leer algunas reseñas, de cuya veracidad no dudo, conviene aclarar que el cd que yo he recibido no tiene ningún defecto ni en el listado de canciones ni en la reproducción de las mismas. Entiendo que los errores mencionados se deben a copias aisladas. Solo hay algunos fallos al mencionar el álbum de procedencia de varios temas, lo que puede disculparse por la inclusión de uno de los espectaculares árboles genealógicos de Pete Frame, con abundante información. Están incluidas las canciones fundamentales de Santana desde 1969 hasta 1990, ordenadas cronológicamente (salvo las dos últimas). Eso sí, para que quepan 39 se recortan segundos aquí y allá, lo que es especialmente notorio en Soul Sacrifice, que dura 3 minutos menos que en la edición original del primer álbum del grupo.
