Product Description

This generously sized wooden framed coldframe provides a place for plants to be hardened off in spring prior to planting out, and to be protected from frosts in the evening and morning in the autumn.

Made from a stained wood frame with twin walled polycarbonate sheets, the coldframe comes flat packed and required home assembly. It has a hinged opening top for easy access to plants and has no base so that water can drain freely when the contents are irrigated. Measurements: Height at the back: 40cm, height at the front: 30cm, width: 100cm, depth : 65cm

Arrived well packaged and undamaged . A simple but clear instruction sheet is included . The wooden frame is very lightweight but up to the job. I gave the wood a generous coat of boiled linseed oil before assembling to extend its longevity. Very simple to assemble with screw holes predrilled and screws provided. No expert DIY skills required here . Unhurried construction took less than 40 minutes. I'm bewildered by a review reporting "fiddly to construct ". I decided to attach a wooden base that I made from inexpensive 6"x 1" fence gravel boards and four short legs to raise it off the ground . This simple modification added weight for stability meaning it certainly won't blow away . It also bolstered rigidity and a provided small amount of storage space underneath. I will repeat the linseed oil treatment from time to time in optimism of a few seasons useful life. My only criticism is to say that two lid stays would have been better than just the one supplied . However that aside, In strong winds I think common sense dictates the lid is best lowered to prevent damage. It's certainly not heavy duty construction but that is reflected in the price . However, with inteligent siting and care of deployment it's certainly a practical and economical addition to gardening requirements and as per that old adage, "it does exactly what it says on the tin'
UPDATE . Somewhat miffed to see that Aldi have just released the exact same cold frame on offer for only £27.99, that's £17 less. To add to the disappointment the Aldi version displays two lid stays . I have removed a star for those reasons .
