Operating Instruction:

Excellent items. The alarms can be heard from the ground floor to the second floor which is more than adequate for us, as well as by neighbouring properties. I tested each item (wearing earplugs!) and all eight of them worked perfectly. Installation was a breeze thanks to the included batteries, double sided tape and guide arrows. The magnet is not tooooo sensitive so if your surfaces are not entirely level this item should still work for you, although the alarm will ring out loud and clear if moved about 1.5cm away from the starting position. The small part is only 12mm wide which makes it absolutely ideal for attaching to the outer (moving) part of sash windows. Placed on the middle beam of such a window, the design is not an eyesore if your windows are painted white yet conspicuous enough that they may easily put a potential burglar off trying the window in the first place. If you can deter a burglar that's half the battle: once that crowbar is on your window you have to deal with repairing the chipped paint and feeling scared about being in your own home! If you want to open the window you simply need to flick the switch to "OFF". Whenever the batteries run out they should be very easy to replace with the alarm still in place thanks to the placement and design of the battery compartment.

In my opinion these are not ideal as door alarms unless for a patio/back garden door where no one should normally enter and you think you'll remember to put the switch to "OFF" before opening the door from inside. This is because there's no way to stop the alarm from going off once the switch is set to ON (apart from closing the door/window, or turning the alarm OFF). It's a simple device at the end of the day (which is how the price can be so compelling), but I believe it is perfectly effective and fit for purpose!
