I absolutely adore Sam Fender. His mixture of incredibly relatable, bitterly realistic lyrics against Springsteen-esque instrumentals and a working-class backdrop is inimitable, and the music itself rocks. I already had a copy of Seventeen Going Under (SGU) on CD, but I just had to buy this. To begin with, we get all the B-sides and extras from the SGU deluxe version and recording sessions. Some of these, like 'Angel in Lothian' and 'Pretending That You're Dead' are phenomenally powerful tracks that *easily* could have made the final cut, but tracks like 'The Kitchen (Live)', 'Howdon Aldi Death Queue' and 'Little Bull of Blithe' just reinforce that Fender may well be the songwriter and performer of our generation.

And that's before we even get to the Live in Finsbury Park disc. Many live albums are fairly unnecessary, but this is absolutely a gig that was worth immortalising in compact disc (and red vinyl) evermore. Fender is one heck of a live performer, managing the lofty, ballad highs of 'The Dying Light' and 'Seventeen Going Under' itself with ease, as well as punky, mosh-pit throwaways of 'Spice' and 'Howdon Aldi Death Queue'. The gig has a great setlist, from someone whose two albums thus far are pretty much flawless from start-to-finish. Across two discs, we get a pretty definitive cut of all of Fender's highs, and some massively underrated deep cuts, too. For the price, especially, you get a lot for your money here, and it's all wrapped in a high-quality, tri-fold digipack. Looks-wise, this is stunning. Sound-wise, it's hypnotic.

Absolutely brilliant double album from one of the best singer/songwriters that the UK has to offer right now. Nearly every track on the first cd is brilliant, you get all of the tracks from the original SGU release, plus the sides and a couple of new tracks. Then on the second disc you get the full live concert that was recorded at his sold out Finsbury park gig which featured some of his best songs to date, Sam and his band sounded absolutely brilliant as usual. Plus there is a little poster included as well as a little booklet. Just a shame that it is one of the cardboard covers as they damage easily and can't be replaced. But as for the album itself, it's absolutely brilliant.

Wer schonmal das Glück hatte, Sam Fender und seine hervorragende Band live zu genießen, weiß, dass sie wirklich genau so gut klingen, wie das auf diesem Album eingefangen wurde. Ein atemloser Ritt durch die besten Songs seiner zwei Alben incl. aller möglichen Gefühlszustände. Wer live so klingen kann, verdient den größten Respekt. Und nebenbei: Sam Fender singt absolut sauber, trifft jeden einzelnen Ton, auch bei den kleinen Variationen, die Stimme klingt immer kristallklar, nichts ist heiser, gepresst, verhaucht oder geknödelt. Und dabei trotzdem so voller "soul". Wie Elton John mal so treffend sagte: Eine der schönsten Stimmen, die er je gehört hat.

Der Mix ist sehr gelungen, man hört die einzigartige Stimme und die Instrumente deutlich, trotzdem kommt auch die euphorische Atmosphäre sehr mit rüber. Schön ist auch, dass Fenders Originaltöne zwischen den Songs dabei sind in seinem weichen Geordie-Dialekt. "Spice" unterbricht Sam kurz vor dem nächsten moshpit, um das Wohlergehen der Fans zu sichern, um kurz darauf mit 1000 fortzufahren, als sei nie was gewesen. Wie toll, endlich gute Live-Aufnahmen von "Get you down" und "Play god" zu haben, die live einfach umwerfend sind. Und das alles mit "Lasagne-brain", mein neuer Lieblingsausdruck.

Auf der Deluxe-CD ist für alle, die die vorige Deluxe-Version und Spotify haben, nur "Little bull of blithe" neu, ein feiner, zärtlicher Song mit Akustikgitarre über seine verstorbene Großmutter, auch das kann er sehr gut.

Für mich einer der aktuell Größten, legend in the making. Freu mich auf viele weitere live-Alben zum Nach- und Vor-Freuen.
