Product description

This classic album, released in July 1972 on the back of three chart-topping T.Rex LPs - provides a perfect snapshot of the era the press dubbed 'T. Rextasy' And is proof of Bolan's extraordinary and enduring appeal across the generations. The Slider contained two UK number 1 hit singles, Telegram Sam and metal guru and the first to bear the T. Rex Wax Co imprint, a seal of approval from EMI Records, who felt Bolan sufficient important to warrant having his own record label. This edition features the complete album remastered by producer Tony Visconti and Ted Jensen. Pressed on 180g clear vinyl.

This album is an all time classic with many of their best songs. The record was well packed and arrived in perfect condition.

My introduction to The Slider was when I found a boxed cassette by the side of the road where I lived. It was in a sorry state, but I put the tape in my car's player and wow it was amazing... Played it for months before buying it on vinyl to listen to it properly. Is fair to say this has been one of my all-time favourite albums, along with Electric Warrior. 1986 was the time I sold my turntable and most of my vinyl to go down the CD route and buying my first CD of The Slider (MARCD 503). So this is my 2nd copy of this CD (CODE90 NINETY 12 Demon Edsel) Nicely packaged with correct picture on front cover. It comes with printed lyrics which is somewhat rare these days. Interestingly there is no actual detail of the remastering on the product despite it marketed by ÍøÆغÚÁÏ as -:
"Digitally remastered straight reissue of the classic 1972 album from Marc Bolan and T. Rex sans bonus tracks".
I was aware of there being actually no "bonus tracks", but details on the remaster would have been welcomed! On a very brief comparison to first CD, the bass and bottom end are tighter, and the sound as a whole is very clear and detailed. For me Electric Warrior and The Slider are the key T Rex albums.

By 1972, Marc Bolan was a star. And he knew it too. Fronting his band T.Rex, he would beam at the tv cameras, winking, waving and poking his tongue out as they performed their latest hit.
The previous year had seen the beginnings of what was to be dubbed 'T.Rextasy' with the release of 'Electric Warrior', a majestic artful, groovy and fey record. Own that and 'The Slider' and you've a taste of T.Rex in its pomp.
This release is highly recommended for both music and vinyl fans. The vinyl is heavy and thick and the artwork is minimal and classy, replicating the original release.
And what a sound Tony Visconti has awoken in the recordings. Instruments have an amazing clarity, its like hearing the original with an amazing top and bottom end. The kick drum on Bill Legend's drums is like hearing his drums in a different light. There's a real power to the songs, but the vitality is bristling too. You can almost touch the sound. Thank you Sir Tony of Visconti. I doff my cap to thee.
The final cherry on the cake is the vinyl comes with a card inside, with a code, where you can download this remaster in MP3 format (320kbs), allowing you to have digital and vinyl pleasure as you see fit. A brilliant idea.
Only downside was that my vinyl was dusty and had fingermarks all over it. More glove use in the warehouse please.

It's 1972 i'm in W.H.Smith in Liverpool city centre, and they have just put out a whole load of THE SLIDER discounted from £2.25 to £1.99..Thank you,I walk to the counter and eagerly pay..Ballrooms of Mars,Baby boomerang..where does he get these titles from..1 hour later back home and listening to it flat out on the floor head on a pillow getting full stereo effect..
I only move to put side 2 on..This is a very heavy pop rock album,as are the singles Telegram sam,and Metal Guru..(more to follow in THE NEXT ALBUM TANX.)
Most of the songs could be singles, but Bolan already has other things in mind for that. OK it was 46 years ago..but as you might have noticed still fresh in my mind..People say that deaths of people like Lennon,& J,FK can FIX memories in your mind..obviously I think the same about music..
Interestingly enough there is a line on this album "John Lennon knows my name..!" Well I have just finished re reading The Andy Peebles John & Yoko interviews..and in it they are talking about Instant Karma Plastic ono band and Lennon says "Marc Bolan says it's the best thing...!".. So he did know his name..Anyway a nice trip down memory lane..and it sounds better than ever..!!!

...but I do have three questions:

    a) Is there a better way to start than with that opening power chord of Metal Guru?
Maybe. But not many that I've heard. From that first crunching guitar chord a marker is thrown down and The Slider rocks 70's pop glam rock style all the way to the last dying note with some pretty good ones thrown in in-between, try the solo on Ballroom of Mars and you'll see what I mean.

    b) Is there a better glam album?
Maybe. Of course there are other contenders for the Best-Glam-Rock-Album-Of-All-Time title, perhaps Ziggy Stardust, perhaps the New York Dolls eponymous album, or even Cockney Rebel's Human Menagerie, but for me none of the above quite maintain the consistency throughout that The Slider achieves, so [for now at least] it's my best all-time glam rock album.

    c) What does it all mean?
No idea. Giraffes in my hair, shady politician in my bed, Jungle-faced Jake, mince pie dog-eye, it's all gibberish but it doesn't matter it works [at least for me it does].

One of my favourite T-Rex albums. Apart from the stand out tunes everyone knows there are some absolute bangers on here. The clear vinyl is lovely and the sleeve is a really good reproduction of the original. Well presented and the sound is great. It also came packaged really well to stop any damage on transit.

I bought this to replace the old T. Rex Slider album my parents gave me in high school. I would say this is an oldie but goodie. Great album.

Die ist die mittlere der 3 besten LPs von T.Rex. Die andern beiden sind Electric warrior und Tanx. Welche besser ist, es ist immer die, die ich mir gerade anhöre.
