Your purchase includes everything you need to get started with software defined radio. A HackRF One and ANT500 antenna from Great Scott Gadgets and 4 SMA antenna adapters from Nooelec are included in your custom bundle purchase.

HackRF One from Great Scott Gadgets is a Software Defined Radio peripheral capable of reception of radio signals from 1MHz to 6GHz. Designed to enable test and development of modern and next-generation radio technologies, HackRF One is an open source hardware platform that can be used as a USB peripheral or programmed for stand-alone operation.

HackRF One has an injection molded plastic enclosure and ships with a micro USB cable. HackRF One is test equipment for RF systems. You are responsible for using your HackRF One legally.

ANT500 from Great Scott Gadgets is a telescopic antenna designed for operation from 75MHz to 1 GHz. Its total length is configurable from 20 cm to 88 cm. ANT500 is constructed of stainless steel and features an SMA male connector, rotating shaft, and adjustable elbow. ANT500 is a 50 ohm general purpose antenna. It is the perfect first antenna for use with HackRF One or YARD Stick One.

Since purchase I have also purchased 3 more HackRF One devices. They make the perfect small form factor receiver and low power transmission devices for experiments by hobbyists and professionals. Unlike other SDR devices the HackRF is not easily overpowered by broadcast FM stations. The HF performance is better than an RTL device although it has not been a perfect experience for Tx. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn about radio transmissions and DSP.

Erstmal vorweg, ich habe wenig mit Amateurfunk zu tun, aber beschäftige mich jetzt seit rund 2 Jahren sehr intensiv mit diversen Anwendungsfällen von SDRs, wobei es mir hauptsächlich um Protokollanalysen und verschiedene Angriffe auf proprietäre Funkprotokolle geht. Das Einstiegsniveau ist hierbei allerdings sehr hart und gerade am Anfang sollte man durchaus über großes Durchhaltevermögen verfügen.

Nun aber zum Produkt, wenn man eine tolle Einsteigerplattform mit einer riesigen Community und vielen dafür gebauten Tools / Tutorials sucht, ist man hier exakt richtig.
Die Fehlertoleranz ist deutlich höher als bei anderen preislich vergleichbaren Produkten, wie beispielsweise dem LimeSDR(welches auch seine Vorteile hat, MIMO), die den Einstieg deutlich erleichtern. Zusätzlich ist bereits eine große Menge der verfügbaren Software out of the box mit hackrf support verfügbar und muss nicht erst, teilweise sehr aufwendig für einen Einsteiger angepasst werden.

Die Tatsache, dass das Gerät "nur" semi duplex hat, ist in den meisten Fällen vernachlässigbar, außer natürlich man will Protokolle, wie BLE, Wifi, LTE, 3G, ZigBee, ... selbst sprechen, das ist aber in meinen Augen eh nicht der interessante Part, der liegt für mich eher dabei neue Dinge zu erkunden, die nicht so gut dokumentiert sind. (Garagentoröffner, Autoschlüssel, Lampensteuerungen und was noch so an Signalen vorbeifliegt)

Vorteile:
-> offene Hardware und Software
-> große Community
-> hohe Fehlertoleranz im Vergleich zu anderen preislich ähnlichen Produkten
-> breites Frequenzspektrum
-> viele Tutorials durch den Hersteller

Nachteile:
-> (Semi duplex)*

*Wie bereits erwähnt ist das nur in manchen Anwendungsfällen ein Nachteil.

Generell kann ich jedem interessierten nur zu diesem Produkt raten und vielleicht noch ein paar Tipps mitgeben, um die ersten Frustrationen abzuwenden:
-> Beim Anschluss des Geräts sollte man sich einen USB Anschluss mit wenig Interferenz suchen, an einem Macbook habe ich zum Beispiel Probleme, wenn ich den Anschluss neben dem Stromanschluss nehme oder bei meinem PC die Frontanschlüsse. Der Fehler kann in der Tat sehr frustrierend sein, weil er dazu führt, dass nichtmal FM Radio (der einfachste Test überhaupt) richtig funktioniert.

-> Die Antenne ganz auszufahren, ist nicht immer am besten, oft erreicht man mit eine kürzeren Länge ein klares Signal. (Abhängig von der Frequenz)

-> Als Software kann ich gnuradio sehr zu Beginn empfehlen, da auch die meisten Tutorials darauf aufbauen, später bei unbekannten Protokollen fand ich urh (Universal Radio Hacker) sehr hilfreich.
