- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2024The album itself is fantastic and this remaster is a sonic improvement on the original to my ears. It is however simply a black vinyl edition and a double clear version was released just a few weeks earlier. There was also a splatter vinyl edition from Rough Trade so it's not anything new. How could it be after all the versions done for the deluxe box set.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2024Without a doubt the greatest live rock album of all time. More than just music, an extravaganza of sound and concept, delivered by a band at their peak. One word of warning though, to new buyers... I bought the most recent pressing (2024), the SPACE RITUAL DOUBLE EDITION. which is brilliant in itself. Excellent production and sound. But: It comes without any of the booklets, artwork and storyline of the original pressing.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 January 20131. Flight check: 2013 issue 2CD collector's edition (2007 re-masters). This is superior to issues prior to 2007.
2. Required equipment: Ears, magnifying glass, open mind.
3. In flight entertainment: The fold out cover is well reproduced from the original vinyl but the text is minute. Use of a magnifying glass reveals the 40 year old nonsense, including the bit about some tracks being too long to fit - ignore this as it does not apply to this flight of full length tracks, but nothing tells you this.
4. Tolerate the flight crew babble which may initially seem 'silly' - you will find it enhances your flight.
5. Listen carefully to the noise of the engines - it is what they are for. Do not panic.
6. In flight transfer: You will need to transfer to CD2 after 65 minutes. Do not be alarmed, exercise is good for you on long haul flights.
7. Refreshment: No intoxicants are required. However, if the naked stewardess offers something, accept it.
8. Landing: Do not rush for the exits. There is no need. Allow experience of your flight to resonate.
9. Do it again, possibly louder.
10. Legal notice: The 2007 reissue - the same 2 CDs - came with a DVD to allow surround sound and no in flight transfer. This remains available from the Silly Price departure lounge; you are advised not pay the profiteers and settle for this 2CD set.
11. Warning: Can be addictive. If of a certain age you may get flashbacks.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2023A classic of the genre and in 5.1 surround, albeit an upmix. Play loud!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 June 2021Saw this happen in Liverpool in 1972. or was it '73
It was a night of firsts for me.
The first time I snuck into a gig with my mates
My first ever gig
First time I found out what a Motorhead was
First time I got drunk
First time I ever experienced a wall of sound
first time music took my breath away
first time I'd experienced the power of music
First time a drummer broke my Sternum
First time I ever saw Lemmy - RIP
First time (certainly not the last) my body shook to his bass
First time I heard a snare hiss between songs
First time I ever got ASMR goose bumps
My last moment as a child.
That night was the first and greatest gig I've ever been to and I've been to hundreds since.
That night was the greatest gift any god could give me and this album always returns me to the Nirvana of that night when my eyes were opened and my world changed for ever.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 December 2013(3 disk Collector's Edition reviewed)
I was a massive Hawkwind fan early in their career and my most memorable experience was when they toured Space Ritual. In all I sat through it three times with the gig at Derby King's Hall being my favourite. Stacia and an amazing light show provided something to look at while the band worked through the story. I was disappointed over Michael Moorcock's absence but Bob Calvert was there as far as I know. As much as I would have loved that concert to have been preserved on tape this full version on two cds is as good as it gets. From the opening "Earth Calling", along "The Black Corridor", through "Space is Deep", then marking "!0 Seconds of Forever", assaulted by "Sonic Attack", meeting a storming version of "Master of the Universe" and being made "Welcome to the Future" the concert is an aural roller-coaster ride with no time to breathe. In my opinion one of the best sets to be recorded by any band ever.
This edition includes several bonus tracks and the videos for Silver Machine and Urban Guerrilla. Accept no substitutes.
Hawkwind may have soared to greater heights with Earth Ritual but this recording is essential listening to any fan of the band in its many incarnations.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 February 2014Yes - three vinyl versions. Space Ritual volume 2 when I couldn't get the original on CD and I now have two versions including the remastered which I'm really please with - extras and all. I've also given Space Ritual away as a present to fellow musicnauts a couple to times. I rank this in my top 5 ever albums and having just watched a movie about Lemmy I now understand why. As Henry Rollins says in the Lemmy movie about Hawkwind - it's genius music. The rhythm section of Lemmy and Simon King are awesome. Nothing like the the Space Ritual came before and nothing has since and won't ever again. It's awesomely LOUD, chaotic, frenzied and rockets along through some great tracks, Born to Go, Orgone Accumulator, Brainstorm, Seven by Seven and the awesome finale of Time We Left followed by the battlestar "attack" version of Master of the Universe. Fabulous travel music - you will literally fall out of the car on your arrival having felt like you've just undertaken the re-entry from space in 2001 A Space Odyssey. Which I'm sure is exactly what Hawkwind was trying to achieve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cl¨¢sicos b¨¢sicos de la psicodelia

5.0 out of 5 stars SPACE FREAK

5.0 out of 5 stars Hawkwind at its best
