Bought this Spear and Jackson spade primarily for heavy work on my allotment. For me personally it's a good weight, my soil is London clay base, so needed a good polished steel for cutting cleanly through the soil, with an added bit if weight to help. I like the comfort of the plastic handle, although having small hands I do not find these types of handles uncomfortable to use, finding the narrow wooden 'D' handle on traditional spades and forks feel not as robust when needed, my preference there.
There seem to be few of these spade models on the market currently, I was pleased to find this old stock model on ��غ��, being discontinued I discovered by S&J.
Spear & Jackson and Bulldog are the only two manufacturers that use one piece solid steel forged heads on their tools, which gives outstanding strength & longevity, I'm confident this spade will last for many years, can recommend to buy.
