Just occasionally you come across a truly great product – this is one such.

Those of us who have wood burners have one bugbear with some models – the ‘asbestos look-alike’ seals go, fall off or disintegrate. They also have a habit of doing just that when the winter is at its worst. To replace them means letting the stove cool down completely, sometimes dismantle part of the stove (take the doors off for example), clean the area with wire brush, meths etc and then using that horrible special glue try to get the replacement seal to stick to the metal. Then you have to leave it for varying periods to set before re-assembling and lighting the stove – hoping that you have put the right amount of glue on.

This material is self-adhesive and a quick clean of a moderately cool part means you can stick it on without really letting the fire out. You don’t have to wait for the glue to set you can simply close the door or whatever and run up the stove again very quickly.

It is sold as a glass seal BUT I have used it as a gasket round the fire doors and it really works – how long it will last, I know not but will update as it matures.

I have two wood burners : a 9KW ‘Harmony’ which has never let me down – and a 15KW ‘Villager’ where the door glass seals went regularly and the door seals frequently. This product has solved both problems. And the whole house is heated with wood – I have no oil or gas.

What I can say is that no owner of a wood burner should be without this product even if it is only used for emergency repairs when you need it.
