Do They Know It’s Christmas? is a single by Band Aid, a charity supergroup founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. To commemorate 40 years since the original recording, a newly compiled 12” vinyl format will raise vital funds for the Band Aid Trust.

The product features the original 1984 version, and subsequent Band Aid 20 and Band Aid 30 versions, plus the 2024 Ultimate Mix – an extraordinary new edit by Trevor Horn which mixes together vocals of the many artists who have recorded the song over the decades into one seamless whole.

This release does not feature any of the artists on Band Aid II. Which with it being the Ultimate Version should. It does feature Band Aid, Band Aid 20, Band Aid 30, Band Aid Live Aid Version. Also it features The Ultimate Mix 2024 but not the single version. Why does it not feature on this CD single? The CD singles comes in a cardboard sleeve. This sleeve has a flip open front that on the othside has the artists names that are included on the song. The reason I obtained a copy of the CD is that i thought it had the single edited version. The other tracks are great but I already had these. This CD single lis a et me down because I had to download the track I really wanted. Why are some lines in the song repeated just after they have been sung? It makes it sound like the track has got stuck and repeated the line over again. I like the track but repeating lines like this is not good. Also in Band Aid II version not featured, Bono did not sing those now famous words he sings. This means he is not on every version. Waiting on a NEW song from Band Aid as this song is getting old. I hate to say NOT AGAIN.

I am playing the CD whilst driving around. Raising money for those who are forgotten or those of us in the West do not know of the poverty those people living in countries with famine, etc

Excellent listen. Nearly all previous a-side versions included. Numerous drawbacks include 1984 original b-side "Feed the World" isn't included. Neither is the original 12 inch or Band Aaid II version. Otherwise, this is the closest one can get, to my knowledge, to obtaining and listening to the previous and current version all at once. Thank you for this re-release. A purchase that is well worth it and going to a great cause.

No one around at the time in circa: November 1984; could fail to be moved by the scenes at an Ethiopian refugee camp as reported by BBC news correspondent - Michael Burke.

These dreadful scenes pricked the conscience of the nation,and most notably Bob Geldof (of The Boomtown rats) and Midge Ure (frontman of Ultravox).
What seemed like a blink of an eye,they had assembled top pop and rock acts both (then) current and established into a London recording studio to record the now seminal - Do they know it's Christmas - and became the best selling single of all time in the UK. The rest as they say is certainly history.

Over the next 40 years (1984-2024) several other versions of DTKIC have been recorded by more contemporary artists of their day I.E. Band aid 2 (1989),Band aid 20 (2004),Band aid 30 (2014) and the latest Band aid 40 released Dec 2024 - as the '2024 ultimate mix' featuring performances of artist who have performed on these various recordings over said years.
Only puzzling omission is the non inclusion of the BA 2 1989 assembly.regarded by some as the worst of all the versions of Do they know it's Christmas - I disagree and give that booby prize to Band aid 20 - especially the chorus on the outro.
The cause it supports is in absolutely no doubt.it resulted in saving so many lives in famine torn Ethiopia and beyond,and I don't want to come across as mean spirited by having a dig at a particular version.

This 'Forty years of Band aid' cd release; comes complete with all the aforementioned versions and the live aid finale,Wembley stadium 1985 version - very moving and powerful - especially when I remember it very well.
Presented in a gatefold sleeve cd digipack; also includes informative and expert opinions in the sleeve notes by Bob Geldof on rear sleeve,and list of practically all performers on all included versions (why I've deliberately not mentioned any) of Do they know...an excellent package on the whole.
NB: also includes part of Michael Burke's powerful report on the unfolding humanitarian disaster in Ethiopia in late 1984 😢
PS: shame it keeps having to be repeated approximately every ten years - to help save more lives from potential starvation!
PPS: if a charity ensemble is required in 2034: please try to come up with a new song 🎵

Da hat Midge Ure, zusammen mit Bob Geldof, einen wirklich tollen Weihnachtssong geschrieben. Ja, das Original von 1984 ist unschlagbar, aber aus nostalgischen Gründen haben auch die Neuauflagen ihre Daseinsberechtigung. Band Aid war "schlichtweg"eine Hilfsaktion, die Not lindern sollte. Dass man heute den Text des Songs auseinander pflückt zeigt, in welch heftiger Zeit wir leben. Da geht es nicht mehr um die (gute) Sache, sondern um Befindlichkeiten. Traurig nur, dass sich dort auch Künstler einreihen, von denen man das nicht erwartet hatte.
Die CD ist auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung!!!
