We’ve taken a little while before writing this review, because it’s quite an expensive product, and we weren’t sure whether it would be useful ‘in the field’. This is our first ‘external monitor’, despite using Sony A7 R4 cameras and assorted other kit to make videos for web streaming- usually we help colleges and schools to advertise or sports centres to explain their facilities for hire etc. and we’ve done it for 20 years without a screen, and I wasn’t sure I needed one, for what is, really, only a bit more than a hobby that pays for its own expenses.
Well, I was wrong. This is not cumbersome, is self powered (rechargeable battery which lasts a whole days use easily and is compatible with Sony NPF 550 - showing that the makers really do understand their likely purchasers) and has a bright, detailed screen with a removable sun guard. You can check focus on a bright day, and get a much better idea of the quality of what you’ve shot. I’m converted!
In the box, you get good, clear, intelligible instructions, the most likely needed leads plus that equivalent to Sony NP-F550 7.4V 2600mAh battery with charger, a universal joint mounting, and the hood that attaches to the clip-on frame supplied with Velcro. As another reviewer has stated, the sockets are sited down one side to save having cables going everywhere.
It’s a great product, and although expensive, is quite reasonably priced for the quality. Don’t be put off - it’s well made and if you do any ‘on site’ photography or video work, you may well - like me- wonder how you managed without. The only downside is the lack of a case - yes,I can put it in a camera bag, but it would be nice to have had something properly fitted.
A really good product, and surprisingly very useful. Very much recommended.
