These well-made adaptors are used to convert a USB-C charging or data cable into a quick-release connector. I have used and still am using a few dedicated cables of this sort, but these adaptors can work with almost any existing USB-C cable. The device is interposed between the cable's plug and the device port, and can be separated by a gentle pull or by rocking, leaving the receptacle in the device, and the swivel section on the cable. The electronic connection is made by small sprung contacts in the lead end, and corresponding concentric tracks in the device end. This allows the connector to rotate as well as swivel, making the lead very flexible, reducing strain on the port, and rendering the device much easier to move and place.
These are an excellent refinement for any USB-C lead, and while they work, they are brilliant. Inevitably, the connectors are going to be fragile, and can't be expected to last as long as a simple lead. But they will extend the life of the device's USB port. The other issue I have had with other magnetic connectors is occasional shorting and melting when the powered contacts have come into contact with metal. The conductors are recessed in this model, with a raised lip around the lead end connector, but care should be taken not to let it attach itself to furniture or attract small metal objects.
Not exactly cheap at £13.99 for two (with useful removal fork), but worth it for the convenience and device protection.

– the other is installed on a multi-battery charging hub

The connectors help reduce the risk of damage of the USB-C ports and make it easy to connect by just letting the magnetic attraction to achieve proper connection.

These 9-pin adapters easily support high-power and high-speed data transfer with my thunderbolt cables.

I know for some, these magnetic adapters might seem like a superfluous expense, but man these things are a game changer if you decide to go all in with them. I now have four magentic adapters (that plug directly into devices), as well as one designated cable and two more converted cables, and gone are the days where I'm fumbling to get my phone on charge. I don't even need two hands anymore. I just hold my phone/tablet/usb-c device anywhere within an inch of my magnetised cable (including when I'm in the car for Android Auto) and everything snaps into place and immediately starts charging/connects. It makes me feel incredibly lazy but also very smug at the same time. It's a pretty great feeling tbh, and I reckon shaves off AT LEAST 20secs of cable management time from my day (which adds up over the year).

There's great flexibility here too - the cable/adapter, when connected, moves and pivots on its hinged joint whenever your moved your device around. It's extremely versatile. And I've only had one instance when the connection has unattached itself. Also, this fast charges my smartphones, as long as you're using the right cables and chargers.

I guess my only slight criticism would be that maybe these adapters might not fit everyone's phone of you have a particularly snug phone case attached. But that's it. Everything else is 5 stars.

This is not the first set of magnetic USB adapters I have ordered, nor is it the first from Vafoton. I really do like that this type of adapter is becoming more prevalent as they save a lot of time and faffing around inserting and removing USB cables and as a result mean there is less likelihood of damaging the actual USB port on the device you are using.

This set of adapters is as good as the last set I ordered. Other than the fact you just need to move the magnetic part of the adapter within about an inch of whatever you are connecting to for it to snap on, it also benefits from the flexible rotation. The main part can be rotated 180 degrees and the USB end that goes into your device is circular so can can be rotated 360 degrees. The included removal device is also handy for devices where it is harder to get a grip once the adapter is in place.

I do hope magnetic adapters eventually become the default as they are so much easier to use and protect your devices from potential damage.

These work extremely well on my MacBook Pro. Its the next best thing to having an old-school Magsafe socket.

The build quality seems decent and they work perfectly. i.e. they dont interfere with charging or with a video signal being sent via USB C.

Are they worth £14? For me, no. A tenmner or less would have seen me award an extra star.
