I only bought this as the Sony version was out of stock and I needed it for a trip so I thought I’d buy this one and if it’s no good I’d just get the proper one when I returned, it’s absolutely great though and works perfectly. Feels a little cheap but the plastic is pretty sturdy and actually not sure if it’d be any different to the Sony. Shot all day on it and didn’t need another battery. Highly recommended!

Topline summary - I was going to buy the official Sony battery grip but that is just way too expensive and there isn't one that fits the A7R5 (yet).
I have plenty of Neewer kit and so knew this should be good quality as I have never had any issues with any of their kit.
The 2 things that particularly drew me to this one was: 1/ the price and 2/ it comes with a wireless remote trigger that is also an intervalometer - and I use an intervalometer a lot for astro.

Build quality (5⭐):
✅ The physical quality of both the battery grip and remote is very good
✅ ✅ The feel of the battery grip texture is IDENTICAL to that of the camera
✅ The 2 batteries fit nice and snug into the grip
✅ No issues with the insertion of grip into the camera's battery compartment
✅ Once the grip is tightened into the camera, there is NO gaps or wobble between the grip and camera

Functionality - main grip (5⭐):
✅ With both batteries fitted, both battery statuses are show on the camera display information
✅ ALL the buttons, dials and joystick nipple work as expected
✅ ✅ As a bonus, the shutter release button has 2 distinct pushes - first half push for focus and the then there is a resistance stop, then second half push for the actual shutter release. So you can focus by touch/feel of the shutter release - unlike the camera shutter release where there is no half way resistance.
✅ The lock button works well - completely disables all buttons/dials

Functionality - wireless remote (4.5⭐):
✅ Overall this works well - pretty easy to set up
✅ Nice clear display with good contrast - can be see at near enough any angle
✅ BULB function works well
✅ Intervalometer easy to set up
❗If the 'INTUL' (Interlude' is set to 0 (zero), then you cannot press play to start the sequence - the MINIMUM value MUST be 1 (or greater) - I initially set to 0 thinking the next shot would be immediately after the previous. If 0 is an invalid setting, then it should set to 1 if 0 is selected - this is what other intervalometers do.
❗There NO way to power off the remote - other than remove the batteries. This is a big fail imo as it can have 2 serious outcomes if you don't use the remote for a long time - 1/ when you go to use the remote, you find the batteries are flat or 2/ if you leave the batteries for a very long time, they could corrode and damage the remote. Maybe harsh, but dropping half star of the rating for this lack of power off function.
❗Nice to see the remote has a loop for a wrist/neck lanyard to be connected - would have been nice for a lanyard to be included, it would have completed the overall package.

Overall, at £76.39 (November 2023 - with a 20% discount applied), I would say that is FANTASTIC value. It is extremely well built, fits my A7R5 PERFECTLY and works really well - the additional wireless remote is a real bonus and works well.

This item seemed to be OK but after a while the battery levels seemed wrong with intermittent readings, this was shown when disconnecting the grip and reconnecting went from empty to full again also the actual battery use goes from battery 1-2 2-1 so usage is really not good out in the field when a crucial moment is lost due to this issue.

Save yourself a few hundred bucks and get this grip. It works just like the Sony and I love the extra room for my big finger, especially when shooting vertical. The only thing that you have to be careful is if you’re fingers aren’t bumping the dial and your shutter speed and begins to move out of position. There is a on off switch so you can turn off the controls on the grip if needed.
