Product description
Chuck's first album in 4 years is inspired by the cumbia bands he saw at San Francisco clubs in the pandemic's aftermath, while undergoing cancer treatment. The music was a source of joy, during a dark time. He started playing with ¿Qiensave? a cumbia band based in Salinas, CA. The result is 11 new Chuck Prophet songs wrapped in a cumbia shell. The latin rhythms & chord progressions merge with Chuck's signature song styles to create something new that defies genre, but is undeniably joyful.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2024Chuck Prophet only puts great records out. However, occasionally he hits a real seam of brilliance. This album is one of those seams!
Teaming up with 'Qiensave' has added a new dimension of cumbia groove into the mix. There isn't an indifferent song on the record in fact several of them are possibly the best songs Chuck has ever written. An absolute pleasure. Buy it....you won't be disappointed.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2024Chuck has a new album, post health scare, and is a mexican crossover album. Unexpected? Yes, but it is a total grower! Only four stars? It is at the very least four and half... and by 2025 maybe worthy of a five star review.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 November 2024The Cumbia dance rhythm is predominant , obvs I had l to look it up too, but you quickly get into the groove ( it's not Bossa Nova) and great rasp work and other speciality sounds. But same trademark drawled laconic lyrics. Yep roc have done a good job on the pressing and the packaging. I have both LP and CD, and the CD is a nice trifold package and sounds great, so either artefact will delight, but I was a sucker for the orange LP. The last track has Steph singing backing vocals, and is a track of gratitude to life. I am very grateful we have Chuck and have tickets for three nights of his March 2025 tour, if you see me there say hi to the Big Man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t miss out on this album
Tried multiple avenues to order this album. Must be in high demand.
It is a great listen. Really enjoy his music. If you are a fan don’t miss out. 5*/5*
Finally found this album in stock at ÍøÆغÚÁÏ and sold by ÍøÆغÚÁÏ. Thought I had lucked out!
I will include this not so glowing review of my amazon experience here not to deter you from buying the album but as a cautionary tale.
Unfortunately amazon took a month to ship this in stock item (with prime) and that was only after they escalated it. Once I finally received a shipping date that was 40 days from date ordered, I started contacting them. They said my order would be escalated and I eventually received it. It took 29 days.
The album came in a very large box. With a bit of paper for packing. The album was not in a cardboard sleeve. So it flopped and slid around the box slightly damaging the cover. If you are a vinyl collector you know the disappointment in receiving an album in this state.
They get 0/0.
Even with the less than stellar experience dealing with ÍøÆغÚÁÏ the album was worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Wait?
If you are here reading reviews, then you already know how great Chuck is. This is just like many of his previous, in that it is nothing like his most recent discs, but another step in a slightly different , but familiar direction. As always, he does so with great wit, charm &musicianship (which naturally includes everyone in the credits). So stop reading and go back up there and hit the "Buy Now" Button. Go!

3.0 out of 5 stars Uneven Chuck
I am a huge Chuck fan. I've seen him thirty times. Can't warm up to this. Very very uneven and two tracks from his best friend Alejandro Escovedo dilute the effort even more. And just how are either Alejandro track even close to being Cumbia? I know Chuck deserves a break after dealing with and beating lymphoma but...would he want a pass? I don't think so. Listen before you buy.
