Fabulous remix by Steven Wilson
Having been a Hawkwind fan since the mid-70¡¯s I already have a very good original release copy of Warrior, so was unsure whether spending nearly 50 quid on this would be worthwhile - well it was well worthwhile. The original is a rather muddy mix, Mr Wilson opens up the sondscape wonderfully, particularly the horns and sax. It¡¯s mixed from the original 16 track master tape!Magnu nearly blew me away!Highly recommend and the sleeve is ¡®proper¡¯, CHAOS

first heard HW back in 1980 on The Friday Rockshow with Tommy Vance - when he played A&B/GV when I must have slightly drifted off.
I remember waking up and thinking what the hell was that?
Tommy had a habit of playing obscure and sometimes hard to find tracks and this in the day was no exception - the album was deleted back then so unobtainable apart from the rare original that (for the time) cost and arm and a leg so I had to wait a while before it hit a re-release.
think I paid ?5.50 from Rayners record shop on Park Street, Bristol - that was a lot for a record back then but when I finally saw the damn thing I knew I had to have it.
the rest of the LP blew me away of course and remains one of me fave HW albums.
    classic for all time.

I used to own this album on vinyl many years ago along with a pile of other stuff that I shudder to think what it would all be worth now but like an idiot I adopted CD and got rid of my vinyl about nearly 20 years ago. FWIW vinyl actually only sounds nicer than CD if you have a properly decent i.e. expensive deck, a good amp etc and you also take meticulous care to keep your records dust and scratch-free. Any quantity of vinyl albums are very heavy to move too, there is a downside to vinyl which is why CDs were invented. Anyhow for me some of Hawkwind's best work was produced while Lemmy (R.I.P.) was their bassist. I'm a Motorhead fan too, especially their first 4 albums. This was the last 'Lemmy-Period' Hawkwind album I had to replace but even CD prices have been extortionate. I first heard 'Space Ritual' in 1979 (and owned the double vinyl album in the fold-out cover omg) and I've loved Hawkwind ever since. Many great gigs and memories etc. For now I'm staying with CD as vinyl and the required equipment is too expensive for me to afford these days. CD has superior sound quality to any digital download format, and vinyl too if you don't have good equipment to play the records on. The other reason I wrote this review is that recently I've noticed some of the CDs I've purchased from ÍøÆغÚÁÏ sellers have been arriving in those awful cheap & nasty semi-cardboard cases with a plastic tray glued to the inside, as this one did. Jewel CD cases aren't exactly a great design but they're better & more durable than the semi-cardboard ones which are going to fade, tear, get dog-eared edges or even become mouldy in the wrong environment over time. I'm hoping someone at ÍøÆغÚÁÏ will notice what I'm putting here and start requiring music retailers to include what kind of cases their CDs will be in in their item descriptions as this CD and a couple of other recent purchases arrived in those cardboard type cases and if I'd been aware of this beforehand, I wouldn't have bought them. They stick out like a sore thumb in a stack of CDs and I generally don't appreciate receiving my purchases in them. We should at least be made aware of what we might be buying so we can make an informed choice of whether to go ahead with a purchase or not. The whole return process is a bit of a faff so I haven't returned any of these cardboard cased monstrosities yet and I'm keeping the CDs in spare jewel cases, but if I get any more, they'll be going back. I hope someone at ÍøÆغÚÁÏ will act on this as it's not much to ask.

But 3 minutes in, the scepticism began to evaporate!

No need to discuss the music, it's Warrior....

I have a mid priced system - nothing fancy! Sonically this LP sounds really good - Bass/ Trebles are well balanced and has a wide soundscape.

This is a Steve Wilson mix and not the original. This mix (imo) is fantastic. Brock and Lemmy's (R.I.P) string work is clearer, percussion has plenty of "punch" and synths have been brought to the fore on this mix - check out 1st chorus on "Assault.." - the Synths sound sublime. The pleasant surprise on this mix is that you can clearly make out the excellent contribution from Turner (R.I.P) which is not as apparent on the Atomhenge ¨C ATOMBOX 1001 2013 CD Box set.

Cover art is a good reproduction as is the inner bag! - Not sure what they mean by reviews from National newspapers etc - nothing!

Excellent LP, Excellent mix - get it while you can!

    Its not the best Hawkwind album by a long way - and there are some brilliant bits on it;

the best bits - by some proper disturbing way - are the three spoken word tracks! Which nearly every other commentator has tried to gloss over! These are chilling and full of drama... its these bits that actually sound like Hawkwind and should have been extended and developed to make this the concept album about the extremity of total war and nihilism to its peak.. (except Opa Loka the rest of this sounds like... look its Hawklight ok!)

CD1 sounds like the album, great; Opa Loka is actually the best thing on this album (no its not the beginning of Techno! Trance maybe...)(but then so is You Shouldnt Do That..) oh and the superb version of Motorhead and I insist with the sax and violins not the really dull versions without!!! (no really!! Motorhead do that much much much better so just realise that and this version is sublime) - I like the extras the new spoken word track Soldiers at the Edge of Time should have been on the album, probably Nik's, ok Mike does a good read through, but in the light of the others already on the album I think Nik's has the right spirit! The short folk tune should be on a Greatful Dead album! I do enjoy the demo version of Spiral galaxy 28948 too

CD2 is a remix of the album - no I'm not beating about the bush, I dont know who the mixer is so there it is - is interesting and I will give credit, at first I hated it... but the version of Magnu is a great alternative! Bringing out Nik¡¯s sax so you can hear it! So well done - but really dont get why did to Assault and Battery what was done... doesn¡¯t help it really... seem to have missed the point of HW doing their thing and there isnt enough of that on here anyway! The live tracks are instantly forgettable and I do remember I heard some the other day (yeah usually take them off before!) and I really liked one but I dont know which one, cos ultimately packaged like this they just blend!

    not heard DVD
    why would I?

so don¡¯t buy it for DVD! you are getting 2 versions of the album on CD - theres another 70 of the album on the DVD but at that point I would give up caring - this album isnt worth all that!

The rest is polished and nice and even if the songs are fine, they dont resonate to the core like Brainstorm, You Shouldnt Do That, Master of the Universe, Orgone Accumulator, Time We Left, Seven by Seven, Born to Go... the tracks on this album drift in and away and like a fast food burger you dont notice you heard it 6 times...
this is Hawkwind when you try and concept it, without realising they were a concept already!

So why have I given it 4 stars? Because at this time and all the way to 1980 anything by this band is a fun, interesting and full of come and spunk! This was the band that made Britain great! And gave us punk rock, alternative music scene, attitude, all nighters, festivals and sheer madness ¨C it¡¯s a shame they got into this concept prog bs on this album cos In Search of Space, Doremi and Space Ritual were much better concept albums then this!!
    Ok maybe they didnt... but
