Product description

From DreamWorks Animation comes an adaptation of Peter Brown’s award-winning, #1 New York Times bestseller, The Wild Robot.

The epic adventure stars Academy Award® winner† Lupita Nyong’o (Us, the Black Panther franchise) as Roz, a robot that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must adapt to the harsh surroundings. Gradually Roz starts building relationships with the animals on the island, including a clever fox voiced by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), and becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling named Brightbill.

The Wild Robot is a powerful story about self-discovery, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature, and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things.

I have seen many animated movies that people claim to be tearjerkers and I usually feel sad but not so much I would cry. This film broke that. I cried during multiple points from how the film conveyed it's themes of found family, loss and finding who you are. Everyone, from Roz to Fink to BrightBill is played brilliantly by their respective VAs, the film is gorgeous most of the time, Kris Bower's soundtrack fits so well that I could use a Boost is my favorite movie track of all time and the story is great.

I will end with a simple request, WATCH. THIS. MOVIE. You deserve to see this movie, on the biggest screen you have. It has moved me, and I hope it moves you.

I mean… are we watching the same film here? No idea about the source material, so I’m just basing this review on what was on the screen.

First off, this is purely personal - but I can’t stand that faux hand-painted style Dreamworks seems to be going for these days. The same as Puss in Boots 2. It just looks terrible and rough. The robot was pin sharp while the backgrounds and animals were rendered in that flat, dull “painted” style, which was really jarring.

The story. Lord. Within the first 10 minutes, I thought “nope”. It’s not witty nor charming, and has a mean streak running through it, the animals seemingly pre-occupied with death. The fox is unlikeable and Roz simply has no personality. People are praising the voice acting - eh?! The performances ranged from adequate to dull.

The first hour was a real chore to sit through, and only starts to pick up after this for about 10 minutes, but then slows down again until it stumbles over the finish line.

I honestly cannot see why this has such great reviews. 97% on RT?! Overlong, miserable and dull.

After a ship carrying intelligent service robots becomes shipwrecked on an island, it's one surviving robot is activated and ventures onto the island. While first met with hostility from the island's wildlife, after rescuing a gosling and helping the other animals to survive, Roz becomes part of a much larger family on the island and begins to understand life far beyond her programming.

I took my boys to see this after reading the book on which is based upon to them. Although not a complete adaptation of the book, it is close enough to the source material to satisfy fans of Peter Brown's novel. Visually it is probably the best thing Dreamworks Animation has ever produced with every scene just drawing your eyes to every frame of this beautifully rendered film. The voice cast were spot on and the story is just beautiful. It's a film about survival, finding family in the most unusual of places and exceeding our programming so that we might show empathy and love to others. It's a very well written adaptation and incredibly moving. One of the best animated movies I have ever seen.
