This is a very well made feeder and was perfect for attaching to my wooden fence.
My two visiting squirrels were using it within a day of it being put up and have no issues feeding from it. One sits on the base and leans in and the other sits on the top of the fence and reaches down to feed. It's so entertaining to watch and I'm pleased to help them throughout the winter. Monkey nuts are a big favourite and it's great to watch them caching them away in various places around our gardens.
Well worth paying a little more for this feeder rather than the cheaper wooden feeder options, which the reviews on here show will often just be destroyed by squirrels in quite a short time.
I'm really pleased with this and would recommend it.

This is a really robust-feeling squirrel feeder. The metal it’s made from is thick and sturdy, and thickly coated in the green finish - which seems to withstand weather well, and should help to prevent corrosion. The standing platform is generous. The feeder tube is made from thick, clear plastic which allows the feed levels to be checked at a glance.

The couple of small negatives I have found to this both relate to the lid. The lid only opens to about a 45 degree angle. This is fine for squirrels feeding, and seems to deter other creatures, but makes the feeder a bit awkward to fill without spilling bits on the ground. The second small niggle is that the lid hinges are quite stiff, so this doesn’t close itself terribly well after it has been used, though the lid design still keeps the contents dry.

This is used regularly by the squirrels visiting our garden. The existence of this feeder definitely doesn’t deter them from visiting the bird feeders too, but since peanuts and sunflower hearts seem to be their preferred feeds, by keeping this well topped-up with these they’re less likely to go for the general seed mix I put in most of the bird feeders.

These are the best Squirrel (Red - in my case) feeders I have tried. I've tried three makes. I live in a damp part of the country - so I've started giving mine an extra lick of paint before I use them. The manufacturer's paint will flake off, and the feeder will rust, if used for long enough in damp conditions. Hammerite works well. Treat the thing like it's going to be in situ for a long time because nothing else is going to go wrong with it.

They're the best - but they're not perfect. To make them perfect - they could do with another couple of affixing holes at the bottom of the back plate (either side - matching the top). Some of us have to try to attach them, using bungee cords, to tree trunks. Four holes would be better than two. Secondly - unless absolutely plumb the lid sometimes stays open after the Squirrel has left. Now, before painting, I glue a little bottle cap to the apex of the lid. It would be better if the apex was molded with a bump on it. Thirdly, it might be because I've fixed it so that the lid can't be opened beyond the point of no return but sometimes the nuts at the bottom moulder. Perhaps the addition of a removable false bottom to raise the level where the bottom nuts are would help. Right now - I'm cutting out discs of foam to do the job but it can look messy when done at home. Ideally, I need to find a plastic tub that fits perfectly and I can put that in upside down to use as a platform.

I noticed people were asking about how to clean it. YES - the tube does detach but you'll need a small phillips head screwdriver for the two screws holding it in place. Don't over tighten them or you might crack the perspex.

Other than that - they're great. They're far superior to the wooden ones with the plastic windows. I'm currently modifying/preparing my third for deployment and number one and two are still in use. Number one was bought in 2011!

I noticed the squirrels were constantly attacking my bird feeders, especially the one that holds nuts (as you would expect) and noticed that they were starting to tear the metal apart so I started looking for a squirrel feeder - to be honest I spent way too long looking and reading reviews. While the wooden ones with the plastic sliding front do look nice the overall reviews I was reading was that the squirrels ultimately end up destroying it.

So I wanted a decent metal one so I purchased this.

The construction feels solid, it's pretty heavy and feels good. I had to get my own screws as none were supplied but that wasn't a problem. So I grabbed my electric screwdriver and had it installed within a couple of minutes.

I waited a day and noticed that the squirrels were still going to my bird feeders so I removed the nuts from the feeder and today I noticed the squirrels actually starting to use this! I will add the nuts back to my bird feeder but I hope they'll use this instead because it's easier for them and no acrobatics are required!

Absolutely thrilled with this squirrel feeder. It is well made and sturdy, squirrel proof unlike others that others have reviewed as being completely destroyed in a couple of days, the contents also stay dry so no waste with soggy food. It took a couple of days for them to find the feeder but they are now regular visitors. A little more expensive than others (mostly wood) but well worth the extra cost as this item will last for years and still look great.

Wir haben lange überlegt welches Eichhörnchen-Futterhaus wir uns so zulegen.

Nachdem die ganzen Holzhäuschen optisch nicht wirklich schön und funktional überzeugend waren haben wir uns für dieses Premium-Futterhaus entschieden.

Anfangs dachten wir unsere 4 Eichhörnchen checken nie wie der Mechanismus funktioniert, wir haben über 4 Monate 3 wechselnde Standorte ausprobiert und obwohl alle direkt in den Laufwegen lagen und auch optimal zu erreichen waren hat nicht eine Nuss gefehlt.
Aber nach gut 4,5 Monaten haben Sie es endlich gecheckt und dann systematisch die Nüsschen abgeholt. Bis zur letzten Nuss ganz unten, ist sehr witzig diese akrobatische Höchstleistung zu beobachten.

Nun nach über einem Jahr in Gebrauch können wir auch ein absolut positives Fazit über das Futterhaus ziehen:

- Die Verarbeitung ist perfekt
- die Nüsse bleiben egal bei welcher Witterung absolut trocken und schimmeln nicht
- Unsere Eichhörnchen kommen gut damit zurecht
- Vögel (insbesondere Eichelhäher) scheitern an dem Mechanismus

ABSOLUTE KAUFEMPFEHLUNG – wirklich ein tolles Produkt und bedingungslos weiterzuempfehlen!!!

Das Futterhäuschen macht einen guten Eindruck. Nachdem ein Holzhäuschen nach 2 Monaten zusammengefault ist und auch das Futter immer wieder nass und schimmlig wurde, wollte ich eine trockene Alternative.
Auf den Metallfuß habe ich mit doppelseitigem Klebeband dünne Holzlättchen geklebt um den Hörnchen mehr Halt zu geben. Innen an den Deckel habe ich zwei Gummipuffer geklebt, damit es nicht laut klappert und evtl. Einklemmen zu verhindern.
Jetzt warte ich auf die Beurteilung der Hörnchen :-) da das Häuschen nicht bei uns zu Hause sondern beim Büro steht, kann ich die Hörnchen leider nicht beobachtet sondern kann nur schauen ob die Nüsse abnehmen.

Hier hat man sicherlich lange Freude dran - ordentlich starkes Stahlblech mit vernünftiger Lackierung und auch der transparente Plastikbehälter hat eine ordentliche Wandstärke .
Wie hier bereits bemängelt wurde, ist die Standfläche für das Eichhörnchen sehr glatt, hier wäre etwas mit Struktur besser - oder halt, wie von mir jetzt nachgebessert, - eine Holzoberfläche .
Vielleicht ist aber ja auch die Glattheit gewollt, um es schwieriger zu machen ....................;-)
