- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 December 2010After an excruciating three week wait for delivery (no thanks to Royal Mail) my copy of this CD finally arrived and I have to say it's simply sublime. Ashkenazy is a consummate artist and his interpretation and delivery of these piano works by Chopin is second to none- definitely worth owning a physical copy and if you absolutely must rip to your PC to carry around on your iPod, it's worth doing so at the highest possible bit rate- the sound reproduction is close to perfect and you can literally hear every last quiver of the strings on the piano.
As a collection this is practically perfect, and would serve as a fantastic introduction not only to Chopin, but to the wonderful world of Piano for any budding classical music fan. Invest! You will not regret adding this to your collection.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2010Having heard Pollini play Chopin at Carnegie Hall on my last trip
to New York, I was finding it difficult to choose a CD with more
of my favourite pieces on the same album -- This is a fantastic
double album and includes 27 favourite piano works, all beautifully
played by Vladimir Ashkenazy .... highly recommeded
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2013At £7.80 including delivery, this is another bargain cd.
I am no expert on classical music and can only say that I am pleased with this cd and that it in general it is good value for money to add to my ever increasing collection.
I always look for Decca, EMI,Philips, and Deutsche ramophon. ever since buying a Tchaikovsky cd on the Pulse label, which I gave away quickly.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 March 2016This is so relaxing and utterly beautiful. I have fallen in love with Chopin's music and listen to it all the time. I bought one for my friend who was going through a difficult time and she loves it too. What a pity he had such a hard life and died so young. I am so grateful tor all of his music.
Thank you
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 January 2015I've been playing the piano for years and for me, Chopin will always be one of the best classical composers ever to have lived. This album just combines the best of him and I think that every song is executed perfectly. If you're a fan of Chopin or the piano then this is a must have!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2015How can anyone not love Ashkenazy? I'm sure he has more fingers per hand than a normal person, and his powers of interpretation and expression, even in the more easily manageable pieces I used to play, is a study in itself.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 October 2014As with all of Ashkenazy's recordings, there is clarity of piano playing - a mixture of brilliance and responsiveness to the score. An excellent choice of Chopin's music and the listener does not tire of repeated playing of the music. Extremely good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars REST FOR THIS WEARY SOUL
On vinyl I owned Ashkenazy's complete recordings of Chopin's piano works. Prior to purchasing this CD of what I call "highlights from Vladimir's Chopin Recordings", I had not replaced them in this format. What a joy it is to hear Vladimir Ashkenazy play these works again. I'm reminded of how much I loved his playing of Chopin on vinyl looking forward to each "new release" with great anticipation. Being, what is referred to, as a "senior citizen" , Chopin's music means ever so much to me offering rest for this weary soul. Vladimir Ashkenazy's performances on these discs are first rate and ones I truly love. As a previous reviewer pointed out, this compellation is a bargain-great price, great music, great sound and great performances by a master of Chopin's music.
If you love Chopin, as I do, buy this recording it will sooth your soul as only great music can.

5.0 out of 5 stars V. Ashkenazy plays the best Chopin, one from the bar scene in “Green Book’ movie.
I love Chopin. He was Polish, escaped Germany during the war as a pianist and stirred up things by outing the cruelty.
He is such and unusually Brilliant classical pianist. He wrote and played the wildest, fastest piano I’ve ever studied.
If you’ve seen the movie Green Book, you’ll see the portrayal of Dr. Shirley playing the best Chopin song in the bar scene.
Very intense and amazing. It’s Etude’in E major ,op 10 no.3 Tristesse’. It blows my mind and I’m a pianist. Can’t play it.

4.0 out of 5 stars What I have heard thus far is beautiful piano music
It usually takes me several times of listening to discover all the nuances of the various pieces, and once is all I have listened to this. What I have heard thus far is beautiful piano music. Glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!!!
In this recording we hear one of the great piano performers in Vladimir Ashkenazy playing pieces from one of the greatest piano composers in Fryderyk Chopin; with the utmost quality in recorded sound. And if one needs more convincing, you get two hours of music for the price of one cd. Hard to find a better buy in classical music. Moreover, this cd not only looks good on paper, but it also is one of my favorites to listen to. I usually listen to music to help enrich and exonerate an otherwise mundane (computer) task, and I find myself stopping work several times each listen because I'm overcome by the beauty of these pieces, and the both spirited and soulful playing of Ashkenazy. For anyone new to Chopin, I cannot think of a better starting point (no, this double cd does not cover all his great compositions!) than this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ashkenazy in prime form. My favorite Chopin 2-CD set. Beautiful numbers with great sound quality.
After listening to Ashkenazy's "My Favorite Beethoven Sonatas" 2-CD set I was so impressed I got his Chopin 2-CD package. I was not disappointed. This is a marvelous set. In number after number new highs are reached and I was completely bowled over. Compare this to Moravec's set titled "Moravec Plays Chopin". Both are excellent but the sound quality here is better by far. Ashkenazy's style is different from Moravec's by being a tad faster.
If you like Chopin this set is a must. Each time you listen the music gets better and better. A beautiful must-have set for your listening pleasure.
