Saving energy and saving money couldn?t be simpler. Simply plug the desktop computer into the OneClick product MASTER SOCKET and the peripherals into the other sockets. Then plug the OneClick product into the wall socket, and switch on. Turn the desktop computer on, and the OneClick product instantly switches power to the peripherals (monitor, scanner, printer, games console, speakers, lights) etc. Switch it off, and it turns them all off - with just one click, leaving only the IntelliPlug on standby, consuming just 0.4 watts of energy. The Intelliplug is easy to use, saves energy (and money and carbon emissions) and is a great, simple product for the house. It reduces standby power usage in a very convenient way. You choose a "master appliance" (PC), plug this into the Intelliplug's master socket, then plug other appliances that are used with the PC into the peripheral sockets (monitor, speakers, printer etc). When the PC is switched on, power is given to all the peripherals at the same time. When the PC is switched off, power is cut (after a short delay) to everything, and nothing is left on standby. You also get surge protection for all appliances plugged into the Intelliplug.

The intelliplug itself consumes around 0.5 W, which is much less than the standby power typically used by PCs, monitors, printers etc. Standby usage for a group of PC appliances should be cut by at least 90%.

I bought both the desktop and TV/audio versions of the Intelliplug. Before I got them I wasn't sure about the differences between the versions, and there are two main differences. The basic functionality is the same: when the master appliance is switched on, power is supplied to the two peripheral sockets, and when the master appliance is switched off, all power is cut from all the sockets (nothing left on standby). The main difference is that the TV/audio version has a small attachment that responds to a remote control, so the switching on/off of the power to the sockets can be done with your TV remote. The other difference is that the TV/audio version has one of the two peripheral sockets dedicated to a Sky digibox (this socket is treated differently in the way it is powered down). So the TV/audio version has just one "normal" peripheral socket controlled by the master socket, though you can easily plug in a four-way adaptor to get more appliances controlled by the master socket. With the desktop version, both peripheral sockets are controlled in the same way by the master socket.

I've been using it on the PC for about 2 weeks and have had no problems at all. Switches on and stays on when you need it, powers off only when you hit the off button on the PC.

NB there's a third version designed for laptops, which have different power usage patterns to desktop machines.

Overall: a simple and effective way to cut down on electricity usage and save money.

Been using this for a month or so now and it seems to work well. It is about the size of a 13 amp adaptor and plugs straight into a 13 amp socket. It has 3 outlets, one for the main computer and 2 for peripherals. It is simple to set up, just a case of plugging it in and connecting your computer and peripheral devices. If you need to control more than 2 peripherals an extension lead can be plugged into it. Mine is set up to switch the monitor, sound system and a desk lamp, but it could also be used for scanners, printers and so on. The only thing it's probably best not to connect to it is your router, as you will probably need it permanently switched on if you use wireless devices such as mobile phones, laptops etc.around the house.

Even though it's to be used with your desktop as a rebel soul I was brave enough to use it for AV equipment. I've connected the plug to my amp and subwoofer and hidden behind sofa with just my hand in the potential blast zone. I've hold my breathe and pressed power button. I have to say, all those stories about your whole life flashing in front of your eyes are true. Time slowed down, I could hear my heartbeat, if You watched hurt locker it was just like it. Fortunately everything turned on as expected and I'm glad to be alive and able to report it can be used for other things than desktop computers. I shall point out that the build quality is superb and even though I still cross my fingers every time I turn the amp ON I'm happy with this glorious device. I'm struggling to understand fully how big impact this which craft will have on my energy bills but I expect to save £££ !

At first I thought this was a great product, I plugged everything together as directed in the instructions, started up my PC, was pleased to see my monitors and peripherals leap to life as expected. I then did a test shutdown and was once again pleasantly surprised with the result of everything going off a few moments after the PC came to a halt. Wonderful I thought, this is great... then, I set about using my PC feeling good about my purchase until I started a game, well, specifically, when I exited the game... the plug saw the drop in current demand as my graphics card returned to the mundane work of driving the desktop and assumed this was me switching off the PC, needless to say it wasn't, but that didn't stop the plug from doing it's thing and promptly switching off all my monitors and peripherals a few seconds after the game exited... bit of a pain really as now I found myself crawling around under the desk trying to juggle plugs in order to restore power to my monitors so I could shut down the machine and remove this poorly designed bit of kit from my setup... waste of £20, don't buy it if you have a moderately beefy graphics card or else you may end up in the same situation.

As with another reviewer I can't say that I can recommend any of the intelliplugs.

Yes they are a great idea. Yes they save electricity. However, I too have had a number of these and they simply do not last. After about one year's use they stop providing power to the peripheral sockets and almost randomly switch on and off these sockets.

In summary the quality of these products is poor with the internal switching circuitry not lasting the expected life of the product.

ADDENDUM: After posting this review I have found Intelliplug Calibration Reset Instructions from [...]. I was not previously aware of a reset procedure. having followed these instructions the Intelliplugs have started to work again, but it has been a few minutes since switching them back on, so I can't comment on any Longevity.

I have therefore changed my rating from 2 stars to 3 stars.
