Good quality 80mm fan, with enough cable options to get it running quickly via different connector options (with some diy modifications)
As claimed the fan is silent ... but only when held in the open air. As soon as it is mounted in an enclosure the effect of the air being drawn through the enclosure is not silent at all, and it sounds like a mini wind tunnel. So their 'quiet' claim is correct, but only under certain use conditions
In my case it is actually louder than my old 50mm fan and I have put that down to the increased air flow through my new enclosure (which is larger volume and now made pf acrylic rather than aluminum - so to be fair it is not a like for like test, but I don't think that would make a huge difference), and the sensors are strangely reporting a slightly increased temperature (still well below any thermal throttle or damage, so a moot point in actuality)
The fan is mounted direct to the chassis with the supplied screws, and not the anti-vibration mounts, but I don't think they would have any impact on the noise at all, as I believe it is all air movement related as it passes the internal components and pushes past the holes in the vent grille
Now just hoping it lasts the MTBF as claimed
A nice piece of kit that suits my latest project better than my old fan, and the performance is not the improvement that I was hoping for, but I would still recommend it due to it's apparent quality.
Follow on:
Connected fan to 3.3v pins and temps only rise slightly, by about 4degC, but noise is drastically reduced to the point that it can't really be heard with a bit general background noise in the house, unless you really concentrate on listening for it
