I was a bit sceptical at first of it being some cheap and flimsy foreign manufacturing etc, but it's been put to a thorough beasting changing seized bearings on a Range Rover and not skipped a beat. I like the way that the end caps make it only pull in a true line and that the threaded rods have actual bearings on the nuts making it very easy to use. Only downside is that it's quite heavy.

I bought this tool to replace front control arm bushings in my 2002 Ford Maverick. It's often stated that it's easier simply to buy new control arms with bushings already installed, and it *is* undoubtedly much easier and quicker, but it can also be an expensive way to do it, unless you're happy to buy cheap no-name control arms and be prepared to replace them again in a year. For me, new bushings and this tool set cost less than a single new control arm from a quality brand.

First thing to say is that the tool isn't the highest quality. The metals feel soft and the threaded rods aren't properly finished and shaped at the ends, they've clearly just been cut square from a longer rod. The cups also don't have the viewing slots cut into the side that are typical in better-quality bearing press sets; it would be easy enough to cut or grind your own, but would cutting slots really have added much to the price?

The nuts are 27mm, at least on the set I received. This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere else and is important to know, as you will need two 27mm tools to operate the set - that's an uncommon size that you may have to order online, depending on where you live. I went with a 27mm deep socket and a spanner, which I had to go out and buy after I'd received the tool and been able to measure the nuts.

It's probably worth bearing in mind, however, that the nature of these no-name tool suppliers is that they can and do vary specifications at any time, so that nut size may change.

The tool did its job, and it was no problem finding appropriately-sized cups to fit both sides of the bushings. However, after use there were signs of the nuts starting to strip the rods, which are coarse-threaded - I have a few second-hand professional vehicle-specific bushing tools that I picked up on eBay over the years, and all of them use fine-threaded rods.

In short, this kit ought to do the job and it may well save you money, but there's a reason why the professional kits cost two or three times as much.

EDIT - OK, almost a year on, my recommendation for longer-term use is: forget the supplied rods and nuts. Get your own M10, 12, 14 and 16 grade 10.9 (or better) fine-thread rods (note - the adapters will take up to M20), nuts and bearings. The real value in the set is the large selection of adapters and cups, not in the rods and nuts.

Used this to push out the old rubber bushes and push in new poly bushes in Land Rover suspension arms. Did the job well, took around 10 minutes to set up and push out each bush, another 10 to push the poly bush and sleeve. Would have not have been possible for me to do this job without it. The big 50mm rubber bushes were hard to press out but slow one flat at a time turns, using a breaker bar to get the leverage, and out they came.
Delivered with one of the stop plates missing but quick email to the product support and the missing part was sent to me.
