Eero + Sky Q + Sky Q Mini + Sky Broadband
5 out of 5 stars
Eero + Sky Q + Sky Q Mini + Sky Broadband
We'd been having major issues with our Sky Q / Sky Broadband / Sky Q Mini setup for months (Main Sky Q in living room, x2 Sky Q Minis in dining room and bedroom) - poor internet speed, poor connectivity, 'blue screen' on Sky Q Mini upstairs etc. Sky sent out engineers, but they were putting it down to Internet speed (we were getting 10-20mbps - see photos, but Sky claimed we should get 38mbps).The choice was wait for the end of the contract, or try something new. I'd looked into Eero as an option, but was worried about the Sky Q 'mesh' setup.Anyhow, I bit the bullet and bought a Eero Pro 5 set - I thought the safest route would be to ethernet/hardwire each Sky Q device directly to an Eero, so I purchased the x3 option. After following the instructions on the Eero website - https://support.eero.com/hc/en-us/articles/360056800472-Setting-Up-eero-with-Sky , turning off the wifi signal of the Sky Broadband Router, and turning off the Sky Q wifi options; there was a slight hiccup with registration taking a while, but once the main Eero was connected, the next two were exceptionally easy to set up.Long story short, after a couple of disconnections, the set up has been brilliant - speeds are far far faster (see photos) and stable. We no longer have Sky Q 'blue screens' and the connection is consistent throughout my home (extended 4 bedroom with thick internal walls). When needed, Eero's customer support has been amazing - I dealt with Jhosie, who emailed back and fore constantly to give suggestions and help out with any niggles.Really pleased with the Eero set up... it has certainly improved the Sky Q/Broadband experience enormously!

This is the second eero Pro that I've brought just to extend the distance a little so I make sure the house is completely covered with the strongest possible signal. I could probably get away with just 1 but the second was just to make sure I have a full blanket coverage.
I was super impressed with the first one so had no hesitation in buying this second one, setup was easy and once connected up everything just needed changing to the new network SSID and done! The app is really good to use and shows all connected devices and shows what type of accessory it is (which you can change and also change the name of the device), the app also allows to run a speed test which when it's connect directly to your router (which it should be) you'll get the accurate speed of your internet. Yes the speeds will be slower on devices than what the test speed will be but this is to be expected. I connected this to my virgin media box (which is the V3 Hub), the only thing I did change was to turn off the wifi on the virgin hub so it's actually just acting as a modem and then letting your eero do all the wifi work.
Wifi coverage is great and you get good speeds all over, depending on the size of your house you may need to plan more than 1, if you're borderline between 2 or 3 I would get the 3 pack as this will be cheaper.
The best thing about the MESH network is that you have 1 main wifi SSID name if you have more than 1 and eero will decide which one to connect to which is done automatically with no problems.
I also connected this to Apple HomeKit which eero is the first router to be HomeKit compatible at the moment (more are coming), connecting this to your HomeKit just allows you to set more security if you need to.
Overall I cannot fault this product at all and if you're looking to upgrade your wifi can definitely recommend this with no problem.

Having researched lots of different options I’m really glad I picked the Eero pro. It was really simple to hook up to my Virgin Media Hub 3 and all my devices are getting great wifi speeds. We have the single unit in a 135sqm house, the signal drops off a little in the far corners, but even so we get full speed on the tests.

I picked this device because of the integrated smart home hub, which to be honest hasn’t been tested yet as our kit is already WiFi enabled, but it gives us options for expansion later.

We also have a Ring doorbell, which can be temperamental with mesh systems, but touch wood 4 weeks on and not had a real issues. Initially the connection to the Ring improved but soon dropped. I’m thinking about buying a second Eero to place it closer to the front door, although I think that’s more an issue with Ring rather than Eero.

The Eero has lots of good features and we particular like the ability to group devices, which can be blocked according to a schedule, great for limiting the kids time in the internet. Parental controls are otherwise a bit basic. The only feature I would have liked would be malware and antivirus protection, which most of the competition do provide, but if your ISP provides that it’s not an issue.

Wifi coverage in our home has been problematic with dead spots and speeds varying in different parts of the house. Was previously using Sky Q mini-boxes as wifi boosters. The Eero devices are game changing, providing stable connectivity and almost full coverage (think i need another 1 device or try different locations). They were super easy to setup and the mobile app is very intuitive. Our internet speed is 25mbps at best based on our location and my son was always complaining about his PS5 game lagging. He generally got 18MBPS by just connecting him to the eero devices he gets the full 25MBPS which is still slow in this day and age but it’s almost an immediate 30% improvement. I’m very happy so far and would definitely recommend these devices.

To be honest this setup did improve some areas of the poor system integrated into Virginmedia routers, but it still has very limited wifi output, and that is a very low base from which to start
It seemed like the perfect solution for us, as it can use Eero integrated غ Echo devices as extenders. The problem is, that those devices need to be placed between the Eero router and any devices you want to connect to, which is not as flexible as it sounds. Turning on Eero on the Echo smart speakers, also gives you no control over what devices you can connect to it. The system tries to 'manage' the wifi, but fails through a lack of any control over the extenders.
I tried over too many weeks to make it work, otherwise I would have returned it.
The only good thing to report is the genius packaging which is a thing of real beauty The actual device is harmless and small, but does get very hot and needs to be placed carefully in order to minimise overheating and get the best performance. If only it worked!
