4k 120Hz is not supported out of the box, it will require manual tweaking
The process of enabling it is straight forward and requires less than 5 minutes of work.
You will require a Windows machine with a DisplayPort to plug in and flash the adapter.

The firmware and instructions are found online after searching:
DP/USB-C/Thunderbolt 3/4 to HDMI 2.1 4k@120hz RGB4:4:4 10b HDR with Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3 now possible !

The Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI 2.1 solved all my issues. I've long wanted to embrace the one cable life with my Macbook but always had to compromise. All docks I've come across are limited to 4k 60Hz when connected to Macs just like the HDMI port on the device itself.

This adapter was outstanding and singlehandedly resolved my issue. Using the firmware update tools and an older firmware version I was able to utilize the DP 1.4 port on my dock and display 4K 120Hz HDR to my TV.

If you're planning to replicate this, for the smoothest experience ensure the adapter is the 102101-BLK model and you're using a certified HDMI 2.1 cable.

The build quality on the adapter is great, even though it's made of plastic it is durable and doesn't get as warm as other adapters.

Highly recommend this adapter!

EDIT 05/01/2023: The new 528.02 driver that just released today has made this adapter fully working with full RGB, 10 bit HDR at 4K @120Hz on my 4090! The cable I am currently using is the "StarTech.com 16ft (5m) HDMI 2.1 Cable 8K - Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 48Gbps - 8K 60Hz/4K 120Hz HDR10+ eARC - Ultra HD 8K HDMI Cable - Monitor/TV/Display - Flexible TPE Jacket (HDMM21V5M)" in case anyone is having trouble getting full RGB, hope this helps!

For some reason, my 4090 stopped being able to send signals to monitors via HDMI port so this fixes the issue since my DP ports still work.

The only caveat to using this adapter is that DP 1.4 has lower bandwidth than HDMI 2.1 so you are forced to use chroma subsampling with 4k@120Hz and you absolutely cannot enable HDR too. If you also want HDR then you have to drop it down to 4k@60Hz.

It's a good temporary fix for sure, I can at least use my primary display again which is an LG OLED TV, but definitely not good for a long term solution.

I bought this for the purpose of being able to use 4K 120hz on my LG C9 with a GTX 1070 to play some Older Games in crisp 4K and it worked straight out of the box for me. All I did afterwards was enable 10 bit colour in the Nvidia Control Panel, as well as enabling HDR when I need it for certain games ( HDR works great with the adapter at 4K 120hz ) .

The only issues I've had with the adapter is the screen can sometimes cut out when exiting a game ( Hasn't happened often ) or when using Custom Resolution Utility to setup 1440p which requires a restart to get the image back, GSync also isn't supported with the adapter either. But other than that, couldn't be happier with the result.

After I searched about a solution to use an old GPU with a new LG C2 TV/Monitor I found this adapter and after I read other reviews I bought it right away with HDMI 2.1 cable as well to try it but unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

I have ASUS 2070 Mini OC edition GPU and recently I bought LG C2 48" to use it as a monitor for my PC. Yes I can choose from 30hz to 120hz and HDR (8-10-12) and I thought that's it just plug and play but this is not the case. When I try to play any games ( eg. Hearthstone / Dying Light 2 / The witcher 3 ) the TV start flickering and after a few seconds it turns black then disconnect. Some times I need to disconnect HDMI cable and reconnect it again or doing a force quit from the game to get it back to normal. When it start flickering I switch to my second monitor and click on desktop in this weird situation the LG C2 shows the game running without sound and once I click on main screen it start to flicker again. I tried everything from update Windows and NVIDIA card to trying another HDMI cable to ON/OFF HDR to change resolution and even reduced the Refresh Rate to 60hz but all gave me same result.

I really wish this adapter works as intended to enjoy my LG C2 TV without the needs to upgrade GPU but unfortunately for some reason it doesn't. Maybe I got a faulty one or it's not working as advertised as a simple plug and play solution.

( UPDATE )

Customer service team reached out to me regarding this issue and resolved the problem with there excellent knowledge and experience. If you experience the same problem like me simply open the GPU control panel and go to Setup G-SYNC, untick the option “Enable settings for the selected display model” this should resolve the problem.

I have noticed a cut off of sound from the TV every once a while for split of seconds and come back when I play games or on a normal activities such as watching a YouTube video and I change some cables and reconnect it and it's gone now and the sound works great w/o any problem.

Definitely I recommend this adapter. It'll well increase your enjoyment of your games especially with HDR and 120Hz.

Edit: well it lasted about 6 weeks and then crapped out. My computer kept disconnecting it and then reconnecting it every couple of seconds. Device manager would refresh like it had detected new hardware and my mouse would freeze and the computer would make a beep sound like when removing a USB cable. It's an external link through ��غ�� so you're not dealing with them through ��غ�� like most of the products on ��غ��. ��غ�� sent me an automated survey I guess they like to know if these external link companies honor their warranties or whatnot. I submitted the ��غ�� questionnaire but never heard from ��غ�� either. So that was a complete waste of money to only last a little over a month. What sucks is I also bought a fiber optic 30 ft HDMI cable at the same time that was capable of 120 HZ which I only needed to use with this adapter. If I'm not using 120 HZ DisplayPort HDMI adapter the cables I had worked fine at 60 HZ. So now I'm back to 60 hertz and an extra HDMI cable that I didn't need. Plus I wasted the cost of the DisplayPort adapter. So needless to say if you're looking for something like this stay clear of this company.

I have a home theater PC with an NVIDIA GTX 1070 video card. I would run a HDMI cable from the card to my Yamaha CX-A5100 processor and then the Yamaha video out would go to my TV. I just recently bought an LG OLED TV that has 120 hertz refresh rate. My Yamaha processor and the HDMI port on the Nvidia graphics card did not support HDMI 2.1 so I could not get 120 Hz. Then I heard that there was a firmware update for the DisplayPort for the GTX 1070 to allow it to get 4k and HDR at 120 HZ. I was happy to find this DisplayPort to HDMI adapter at an affordable price so I thought I would give it a try. This thing works perfectly! I also bought a 30 ft fiber optic HDMI 2.1 cable to go with it because my other HDMI cables were not 2.1. Now I can go directly from the display port of my graphics card to my TV's HDMI input and get 120 HZ and 4K resolution and HDR. I then run the HDMI out from the GTX 1070 to my Yamaha processor for audio. I just select which device I want audio to go through from the speaker icon in the taskbar. I select my TV if I want audio to go to the TV and I select my Yamaha if I want DTS master or Dolby Atmos audio to go to my processor. Everything works like a charm. This saved me the cost of having to upgrade to a new $600 video card to get HDMI 2.1 when the GTX 1070 was sufficient for h.265 and other processing needs that I have. For the price of this adapter you can't go wrong. Everything is as stable as it could be there is no flickering or communications issues it works like a charm. Give it a try there's no reason why you won't be happy.

Edit: well it lasted about 6 weeks and then crapped out. My computer kept disconnecting it and then reconnecting it every couple of seconds. Device manager would refresh like it had detected new hardware and my mouse would freeze and the computer would make a beep sound like when removing a USB cable. It constantly does this every couple of seconds. Completely unusable now. I sent the company an email through ��غ��'s link but they never responded. J'avais besoin d'un adaptateur de ce genre car ma carte graphique ne dispose que d'une seule sortie HDMI et celle-ci est déjà occupée par une TV LG OLED41C3 qui ne dispose pas d'entrée DisplayPort. Souhaitant en parallèle avoir l'image sur un vidéo-projecteur (lui également HDMI only), je n'avais pas le choix.

Après avoir testé un câble DP vers HDMI (Câble DisplayPort 1.4 vers HDMI 2.1 8K,Câble Maxonar DP vers HDMI 2m) puis un splitter (CAKOBLE HDMI Splitter (Upgraded), Bi-Directional Switch HDMI 8K Ultra HD High Speed 48Gbps), avec aucune image à l'arrivée dans les deux cas, j'ai acheté sans trop y croire ce modèle.

Miracle, tout fonctionne, aussi bien vers la TV en 4K@120Hz, RGB Full, 12bpc (mais sans le VRR/G-Sync mais seul le 100% HDMI 2.1 le permet de toutes façons, comme le montrent les innombrables posts Reddit à ce sujet) que vers le projo en 4K@60Hz, RGB Full, 12bpc. Dans ce dernier cas, j'ai quand même 12m de câbles. Le signal accroche même plus vite qu'avant sachant qu'il était instable en RGB Full sans cet adaptateur. J'imagine qu'il est amplifié, ce qui est une bonne chose. Finalement, j'utilise l'adaptateur pour le projo, ce qui me permet de conserver le G-Sync sur la TV (qui est mon moniteur principal). Bravo Cable Matters !!!
