I ordered this as a recommended low end but dependable brand. Bad choice. The OBS software can't cleanly pick up a perfectly clear picture from the camera playback and has turned it into black and white. There is no software to help you find best recording / playback settings without having to endlessly tweak and hope. Hardly an out of the box solution.
I found some other Software that improved the picture quality but would not read the device properly.
Both OBS and Debut said audio had recorded but there was only feedback.
Tapes play fine straight onto the TV so I can only conclude it's a substandard piece of hardware.

Pros: Works with Mac (I have a newer M2 Pro MacBook Pro), works using QuickTime Player on Mac, is more affordable than some of its competitors, allows for the effective conversion of VHS tapes to digital video recordings.

Cons: No USB type C (if you have a newer MacBook, you will have to purchase a USB to USB type C adapter), couldn’t install the driver (this wasn’t a huge issue because it worked well with QuickTime Player).

Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to digitally convert old home VCR tapes.

I bought another big name capture card and software (Dazzle) that just didn’t work very well. Video was jerky and poor so it went back.

I bought this much cheaper (but not the cheapest) video capture device and I’ve now transferred all my videos since the 1980’s over to digital. That’s full size vhs, vhs-c, 8mm, hi-8 and digital 8. All have come over very good quality. I just used the free Potplayer software which works well enough. This is a great product and great value too.
