I've been using this HDMI audio extractor for a week now and it's mostly been performing well. It's compact, maintains a steady connection and does a decent job at splitting the audio. However, there are a couple of issues I've noticed. Firstly, it doesn't remove the audio from the video output, resulting in duplicate audio from the television and speaker. This can be easily rectified by turning off the TV volume, but it seems like a design flaw. Why would anyone want the same audio output twice? Secondly, there's a noticeable noise when I switch my TV on and off as the HDMI source disappears. It's momentary but quite irritating.

This was easy to use out of the box!

First you will need power! I plugged the provided USB power lead into the little black box and an external wall socket which just so happens to have USB power, however a spare USB port on your computer or laptop is preferable because USB power will be more regulated than a mains supply.

Even though the kit comes with a audio jack to phono lead which would be great for hifi or other seperate system for recording, I had a spare 3.5mm > 3.5mm jack cable so I plugged it into the box instead and connected to my PC onboard audio (pink) and set the audio paramaters on my desktop to Line IN.

Using the included HDMI cable I plugged it into my graphics cards output and the black box input, then plugged my HDMI cable into the black box output and to a spare port on my TV so I can watch and listen in real time while I record.

I already had Audacity software installed, setup was intuitive. Under Audio Setup tab, select Recording Device and select your Line IN source. You can literally use your computer as per normal and record the audio directly into Audacity for editing. So whatever you do, listen to the radio, play a game, watch YouTube, Netflix, Sky Go, Prime you can grab the audio from that source. The playback was clean no degredation or background noise that I could detect, this will depend entirely on the quality of your audio source.

I did experience one problem with the power source. It did not like my external mains power adapter and consequently cut out and displayed a static image so I plugged it into my computer. Before I changed it over, I looked at a USB voltage/ampage monitor and could see it was exceeding 5v but ampage was very low. My computer voltage was about right almost bang on 5v and ampage was slightly higher and within safe paramaters 0.5 > 2.4A so I will stick to PC power instead of my mains adapter since it does not disconnect.

The audio reproduction is impressive especially when recording from a high quality 4K video probably with lossless audio. For that purpose alone I feel this is great value for money and audio enthusiasts will enjoy using this audio extractor/grabber.

I am very happy with the results this has provided.

You can link this up to you hdmi source and plug it directly into your stereo so that you can also have a more immersive audio sound than just what your television put out.

A very good product , that comes with all the leads that you are likely to need, whilst they are not the greatest of build quality, they adequately serve you for what you need.

You can also use your own more expensive cables and leads on this if you feel the provided leads aren't good enough for you, personally they served me very well for what I needed.

I would recommend this, very happy with this.

This device does not need a TV or monitor and works on its own HDMI port. I loved this feature, as my monitor only supported DisplayPort. In Win11, it will show up as "MS-HDMI-RX" and is considered a 4K monitor.

The cables it comes with are roughly 1m long. It requires a USB power adapter but does not come with one.

A minor issue I ran into was sound crackling at 1.75x video playback speed with 24bit/192kHz quality. I did not get this issue when lowering the playback speed to 1x or using a lower 16bit/48kHz audio quality.

The one thing I did not like was the Blue LED indicator being overly bright. Covering it with electrical tape fixes the issue, but the light can be intrusive.
