This is a really lovely gardening trowel. It's beautifully made, super high quality, comes in a really lovely leather sheath, and it's extremely handy around the garden. It even came with a small sharpening stone to help keep its edge! I really love the narrower blade than the traditional type of trowel as it makes its use more focused. I love it!

I gave this garden tool to my husband, as he does most of the gardening, and also because he always wears a belt on his trousers. The belt loop makes it ideal for this tool to be kept handy when he's working outside. It's so well made, he absolutely loves it. It comes with a brown coloured quality 3mm thick real leather cover, with a metal press stud fastening strap around the handle, which keeps the cover firmly held onto the knife. It’s stitched really neatly with thick waxed thread. A leather belt loop is double-riveted onto the back of the cover, and will fit onto any belt up to 6cm wide. Also included in the box is a knife sharpening stone, which is for the sharp edge of the knife blade only, not the serrated saw edge.

Although this tool is described as a garden spade, I would describe it more of a knife. You can dig into the ground with it though. It’s very sharp, and could certainly be dangerous in the wrong hands, so you might want to carefully consider where you store it. It’s definitely professional grade quality, and looks like it’s been made to last forever. The knife is made of thick, strong, good quality stainless steel, which is easy to clean soil from. It’s completely rigid, and doesn't bend when using, even when going through solid ground. We’ve tested it to full depth in both soil and grass, and it goes through both with ease, making it ideal for removing deep-rooted weeds. One side of the knife has a sharp blade, the opposite side has a saw blade. There are two prongs on the tip of the knife, which is very useful for piercing and cutting open compost bags, as well as for weeding. The saw blade is great for cutting through branches that are too thick for secateurs, and for sawing through roots to divide plants. This knife is also very useful for levering open the ground and getting the right depth for bulb planting. There is a measurement scale from 1 to 6 inches, and the equivalent in millimetres, etched into the metal so that it never fades away.

This tool is like the gardeners equivalent of a Swiss Army knife. It’s very versatile and has so many different uses from a single tool. It feels comfortable and well balanced in the hand, and has a hole drilled through the end of the handle, allowing you to hang it from a hook if you wanted to. This would make a wonderful long-lasting and thoughtful gift for any keen gardener. The only slight negative I could find is that the rosewood handle looks slightly dry underneath, and could probably do with regular applications of raw linseed oil to nourish the wood to stop it from cracking. Otherwise, I really can’t fault it at all.

I find it a little scary handling this trowel because it looks a little vicious and is so sharp with the saw on one side! Together with the handle and leather cover, it feels a little like handling a weapon. But it should be useful in the garden for sawing off branches and such.

It comes with a sharpening stone to keep it in good working order which is thoughtful.

The whole thing is sturdy and fairly heavy. I found it a bit heavy for me personally, but my partner thought it was manly and not so heavy that it's uncomfortable to work with - so I guess the weight of it is ok as long as you don't mind a bit of weight.

The handle is not varnished in any way so it feels a little like handling raw wood. It is sanded nicely though so that there are no splinters. For me it wasn't the most comfortable handle to hold - There's a strip of metal down the sides which protrudes a little and I find it a little uncomfy in hand.

As a trowel it works well and I like that there's a little ruler on it to see how deep the hole you're making is.

A great item, it is now a firm favourite for me. Multiple uses, so lessens the amount of hand tools I need to carry around the garden. The engraved measurement scale has just made planting spring bulbs easy as anything, and the scale will stay evident as engraved rather than painted on. The brown sheath keeps it protected while not in use, but I doo see bits of material from the inside if it on the knife blade when I take it out.

The smooth and serrated blade edges are very sharp, easy to cut through roots when digging, and many other cutting tasks such as clearing undergrowth or verges. The blade goes into the ground easily, making small digging tasks effortless. The blade is the full length of the spade, with the wood hand grips attached over the handle section. No negative things noticed; I am happy to recommend.
