About this item

Two Selectable Installation Methods: SmallRig Mini Side Handle Kit 4816 is designed to reduce arm burden during shooting, assist in stable shooting, and provide an accessory expansion interface. The kit includes a handle, a NATO clamp and a double 1/4"-20 screws handle adapters, which can be used in combination according to different needs.
Highly Versatile: The handle can be adapted to the left and right sides of the cage, can be flexibly installed on the left and right sides, and supports up and down adjustment. According to your personal preference, you can choose the most comfortable holding and shooting method.
Multiple Mounting Points: There are three 1/4"-20 threaded holes on the top of the handle to expand accessories such as magic arms, microphones, and LED light. There are wrist strap holes on both sides of the handle to connect wrist straps to increase hand-held stability. The kit also includes a cold shoe mount that can be expanded with other devices as needed.
Ergonomic Design: This handle is ergonomically designed, with a silicone patch embedded in the handle, which is comfortable to hold and has anti-slip and anti-freeze functions. The bottom has a built-in magnetic wrench that can be used at any time for easy disassembly and installation. Maximum load-bearing capacity is 6kg.
Note: This Handle Kit can also be adapted to the cage with built-in NATO rail. If you do not have a cage with built-in NATO rail, it is recommended to use it with SmallRig NATO rail 1409 or 2172 for conversion.

This SMALLRIG camera side handle has options for using either a quarter inch British Standard Whitworth fitting or a NATO rail fitting, giving you the option of attaching it to a camera 'L' clamp or pretty much any cage, just by using a different one of the two supplied arms. To fit it, put the end with the two holes into the slot, slide in the plate with the two holes in it into the other side and then screw it into place.
The handle itself is made largely from plastic but with a metal top. There is grip rubber on the front and the back but this is inset into shallow depressions rather than being flush with the metal/plastic. Additionally, the profile of the curves where the front and the side join are not as well blended in as they are on other models and tend to make it less comfortable to use.
The handle is built symmetrically so that it can be used either left- or right-handed which is useful if you are making a rig that needs one for each hand.
On the top are three, quarter-inch British Standard Whitworth tapped holes that you can attach anything to but it also comes with a cold shoe with two additional small screws that look as though they are there to lock it in position and stop it from rotating. However, the holes that they would locate in are tapped with quarter BSW, the same as the central hole, not the thread size of the smaller screws. At the bottom of the holes are some smaller screws with hexagonal ends for a small Allen key. The cold shoe fits on the end, without the locating screws but being metal to metal - there not being any appreciable amount of spring in the joint - they have to be tightened quite hard so that the cold shoe doesn't just come undone and easily swivel around to any angle.
The slot in the cold shoe that takes a hot/cold shoe fitted unit such as a flash unit does not have any springs in it so unless what you are putting there has springs or you can lock it, it is likely that it will fall out at some stage.

This handle has improved my camera setup significantly. It’s ergonomically designed, making long shoots much more comfortable. The ability to mount accessories like microphones and lights adds flexibility, and I love that it works for both left and right-hand configurations. The silicone grip is comfortable, and the magnetic wrench at the bottom is convenient for quick adjustments. It’s been a solid addition to my gear.

I was particularly drawn to it, because I have never used any kind of rig for my camera previously, but am in the process of building one, so thought that this handle might be a useful addition.

The build quality of the handle itself is excellent - it's very sturdy, and has a sleek finish, which is accentuated by the comfortable rubber grip on the outside.

It can take a little bit of time figuring out how to attach it (depending on what kind of setup you're using it with), but it isn't too taxing. There is actually a magnetic slot contained within it, which allows you to keep the included allen key safe - very handy for changing things up on the go! The coldshoe mount is very easy to connect, as well.

To test, I affixed it to the SmallRig Panasonic Lumix GH5 cage, and found that it was more than capable of both load-bearing and keeping everything nice and steady - this was especially true when I used it in conjunction with a different variant of a SmallRig side handle, and the SmallRig Arri Top Handle (which I have also received to test and review).

In summary, a good value item that is worthy of a place in any camera kit.

This is the second Smallrig item I've had the privilege of testing and reviewing for the Vine programme - and this brand has not let me down.

This is a simple concept but build quality is critical - it's a handle that attaches to a camera cage for ease of maneuverability and grip whilst filming. When you have a £6,000 Sony A1 in a cage, you better make sure whatever handle you attach to the cage is reliable, sturdy, and won't fall off!

This I can trust with my A1 camera. It's solid, reassuringly heavy and well built. The screws are standard NATO mount with option to use 1/4" - this is standard and it fits right in. Easy to tighten the screws and have a secure grip. When attached it's so secure to the cage that it behaves as it was one piece.

It's well designed to adapt to attach to either the left or right hand side and has universal screw holes in the top to attach any accessories you may wish (I use a flood light whilst doing URBEX).

Superb item - I am really impressed with Smallrig and I take photography really seriously - I wouldn't recommend any product I test through Vine unless I'd be happy to use it myself as a semi-professional photographer and I'm taking this puppy to Georgia for some Urbex in two weeks!

Estos mangos laterales de Smallrig en sus diferentes versiones deberían ser obligatorios. Mejoran un montón la forma en que coges la cámara, sobre todo a la hora de hacer video, y no son solo compatibles con sus jaulas para cámara, también, y esto creo que es lo mejor los puedes colocar en sus jaulas para teléfono móvil.

Este modelo se nota robusto y bien construido, y aunque al principio parece un poco lioso con tantas piezas, luego te das cuenta de que da mucha flexibilidad. Se incluyen el mango, la pieza para acoplar a la zapata, y dos tipos de adaptadores para montarlo de diferentes maneras. Y lo que me ha encantado, un detalle que se agradece, es que la llave allen viene imantada en el propio mango, así que no tienes que andar buscándola por ahí. La instalación es sencilla, y en un momento lo tienes listo para usar. Permite acoplar el agarre a la cámara de diferentes formas y eso es un punto a favor, porque se adapta a distintas configuraciones. Se nota que han pensado en la ergonomía, porque resulta cómodo en la mano y ayuda a estabilizar las tomas, sobre todo si usas equipos un poco pesados. Además, la zapata en la parte superior te da la opción de añadirle otros accesorios, como un micrófono o una luz.

No es el más barato, como digo hay diferentes modelos con diferentes acabados y funciones, pero vale mucho la pena. Quizás se podría mejorar un poco el sistema de ajuste de la abrazadera, a veces cuesta un poco apretarlo bien. Pero en definitiva es un producto excelente.

Conosco la marca SmallRig in quanto ho acquistato altri prodotti compresa la “gabbia universale per telefono a sgancio rapido”. Questa impugnatura laterale (side handle), di fatto universale ed utilizzabile con diverse gabbie (anche con slitteNATO), completa la mia “gabbia” rendendola più stabile.
Nella confezione sono forniti, oltre alla maniglia, tue tipologie di attacchi (a doppia vite 1/4” e per slitta) ed un “cold shoe” (slitta fredda) per il fissaggio di faretto o microfono.
La maniglia misura è alta 100 mm, larga 32 mm e profonda 42 mm. Ha due asole laterali per fissare le staffe, destra o sinistra, larga poco più di 10 mm ed alta circa 52 mm. Permette una escursione nella regolazione della staffa di circa 26 mm. Alle estremità alto/basso ha da un lato 3 fori per viti 1/4” fotografiche (interforo circa 8,5 mm), dall’altro una chiave esagonale 4 mm tenuta in posizione da due magneti. Su i lati delle entrambe estremità sono presenti 2 asole “passacinghia”, con larghezze da 20 e 22 mm. Il fissaggio di entrambi gli attacchi avviene attraverso due viti da 5 mm con interforo da 9 mm (viti che però non ho trovato e, conoscendo SmallRig, credo sia certamente un errore in quanto descritte nella vetrina, pertanto ho chiesto al costruttore).
L’attacco NATO permette il fissaggio su una slitta con larghezza da 20 a 24 mm. L’attacco con viti da 1/4” necessità di un interforo di 19 mm.
La slitta fredda è fornita con una vite da 1/4” per attacco direttamente sulla maniglia e ulteriori due viti 2 mm per montaggio alternativo.
La costruzione, come tradizione SmallRig è veramente ottima con materiali, normalmente lega di alluminio ed acciaio, di qualità e molto curata nei dettagli. Molto raramente ho trovato piccole sbavature.
In conclusione, nonostante l’attuale costo di circa 35 euro che può sembrare un po’ caro, a mio parere è però difficile trovare prodotti curati a livello di progettazione e ben rifiniti come questo, pertanto, pur non facendolo frequentemente, ritengo sia giusto attribuire una valutazione a 5 stelle senza riserve.

In conclusione, nonostante l’attuale costo di circa 35 euro che può sembrare un po’ caro, a mio parere è però difficile trovare prodotti curati a livello di progettazione e ben rifiniti come questo, pertanto, pur non facendolo frequentemente, ritengo sia giusto attribuire una valutazione a 5 stelle senza riserve.

Ich gebe offen zu, dass ich Smallrig-Zubehör für die Smartphonefotografie bisher irgendwie immer mit Begeisterung genutzt habe und bereits vor Test mit bester Hoffnung an diesen Slide-Handle herangegangen bin.

Mittlerweile bietet Smallrig wirklich einige solcher Griffe mit versch. Anschlussystemen und für mich mit einem universellen Cage ebendieser Firma zeigten sich alle dargebotenen Anschlussarten als passend, sodass ich auch diesen hier mit dem beigelegten Zubehör montieren konnte.

Der Griff kommt sehr gut verpackt, Zubehörteile sind im kompakten Karton nochmals einzeln abgepackt, sodass auf strapaziösen Lieferwegen nichts verloren geht. Er kommt in Einzelteile zerlegt, also vorrangig Griff, Kaltschuhplatte mit Schraubmaterial, zwei verschiedene Griffbefestigungsgabeln (Schnellsystem sowie Schraubsytem, von welchem letzteres für meinen Smartphonecage gut passte).

Während ich den Griff auspackte und überlegte, dass ich wohl noch einen Imbus dazuziehen müsse (ich hatte die Anleitung gar nicht erst geöffnet), befühlte ich den Griff und stellte fest, dass dort magnetisiert eingebettet ein passender Imbus bereits versteckt im "Fuß" des Griffes ruhte. Das ist ein kleiner Touch, der - zumindest bei mir - extrem gut ankommt. Demnach war dann doch die Montage binnen 30 Sekunden ohne Drittwerkzeug möglich. Die Halterung mit dem Schraubverbinder im Griff versenkt, mit der kleinen Platte und zwei Imbusschrauben aus dem Set gekontert und ran an den Cage.

So kann ich mein Smartphonesetup sehr viel angenehmer führen und ausrichten und bei Bedarf noch die Kaltschuhplatte für was-auch-immer-einen-Kaltschuh-besitzt zurüsten. Auch entsprechende Bluetooth-fähige Auslöser könnte ich mal eben auf den Griff rüsten um das Handling eines solchen Setups nochmals zu steigern.

Der Preis des Griffs ist zwar nicht spottbillig, aber bei Vergleich versch. Angebote weiterer Hersteller und auch mit verschiedensten Griffen des selben Herstellers zeigt dann auf, dass er sich genau im gewohnten Preisgefälle bewegt, der typischweise anfällt. Für mich wird es subjektiv günstiger, da ich durch die multiplen Montagemöglichkeiten auch längerfristig einen Nutzen für verschiedene Setups finden werde.

Also: Gut durchdacht, gut verarbeitet und fasst sich gut an, Preis in Ordnung. Kann ich jedem empfehlen, wenn eben ein Griff für die sichere Führung gewünscht wird.
