- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 April 2024There is a lot to like about this little kit, but there are a couple of things that I thought could be a bit better. The trays and the covers are quite small, but to be fair are probably fine for what the kit is designed for. They are also quite thin plastic so if this is going to last then a bit of care will be needed. The trays and the lids come stacked inside each other only they are a snug fit and care is needed to separate them to avoid damage and because they are thin they feel fragile. The little air regular at the top is also the LED lighting unit and this pushes into place relatively easily. The cable for the LED lights is an OK length but if you plan to use a plug in unit to power them you will need to set this up near a mains socket or use an extension lead; I have used a power bank for ease. The heater mat seems OK it is not large so three of these seed trays fit on fine, although it might be possible to just about get all six on if you squeeze then on sideways.
My biggest complaint is the heater mat mains plug it is a moulded unit so cant be removed but it is not fused, that is not good so I plan to cut it off and put a proper fused plug on (I should not have to do that these days)
However I think its OK I plan to use it to start off Lettuce, the lettuce you get in the shops these days is just not as good as it was back in the good old days, I really don't understand the decline of decent lettuce.
This appears to be priced about the same as other similar items and I have no idea if they are better or worse than this, but if I get some decent veg started then I will be happy. 4 stars because that plug really should be fused.
