I've purchased this device twice now, it's well bit, it's always worked with whatever drive I've used it with be it Blu-ray, HDD or SSD, its even worked with IDE drives through a SATA to IDE adaptor and it even powers my Samsung 870 without a mains plug.
For me I'd ignore the reviews that say it under performs, SATA 3 has a theoretical limit of 6Gbps where as USB3.0 is 5Gbps so it will never be able to push a drive to its limit, that's not a fault of the device but of the original USB3 standard. In my testing with a good SSD I get 4.2Gbps which is about right when including USB overhead (standards quoting peak numbers is the bain of computer technology), if you want to max a drive you will need a 10Gbps USB adaptor.
Edit. The original one purchased in 2020 came with the power supply, newer ones don't even though there is a picture showing one, the text does state that it doesn't include one though. Knocked down a star for that reason.
