  Great bit of kit that has enabled me to continue using a Q Acoustics soundbar which only had phono inputs with my new LG TV which only had HDMI (ARC) output. Now i have the soundbar connected and the volume is controlled by the TV remote. You do lose the sound type/ equalizer controls that you get from the TV speaker only and you can not have the TV speaker and the soundbar when connected via the HDMI ARC, but this is a small sacrifice for the improved sound overall.
  Local tv retailer told me it was not possible to do this, and i needed a new soundbar.
