I'm a freelance PHP developer and my 5 year old workhorse PC died and I had to buy another off-the-shelf in a hurry for next day delivery. Upon reading more closely the specs of the PC I saw the only video outputs were two HDMI sockets. I have four monitors in my office and none of them had HDMI port, just VGA and DVI. A Google on the subject painted all sorts of woes, but I opted to get some adapters and chance my luck.
My luck was in! These adapters are absolutely brilliant. For starters they come in a branded resealable jiffy bag, it's a sign of quality. There's a fold out card inside with the warranty info, and an invite to do a review (hence me here!) - it's not a flappy bit of paper, it's card and the font is a good size that even I can read! Again, it's a sign of quality.
It comes with a USB cable (I think that's for devices that need extra power - mine didn't need it) as well as a 3.5mm stereo jack to take sound from the HDMI cable and send the output to where ever you need it (again, not needed for my set up).
So I bought two, one for each HDMI port on the back of the new PC for my dual-monitor set up. Each adapter has a VGA socket on it which I then plug the monitor leads into. Turned on the PC for the first time and straight into the BIOS boot screen and then onto Windows.
