  Renting a property with a gas fireplace; it wasn’t very effective and the flames were small and unevenly spread. I replaced the vermiculite and gave the whole thing a bit of a clean, it is much better now. Just having fresh vermiculite made the fireplace look cleaner so was probably worth replacing the dusty, grit filled stuff that was there before.
