Customer Review

When, a few weeks ago, I made the decision to switch from an XP machine to one running Windows 7 I expected (hoped...?) that the various peripherals would migrate painlessly from one to the other. Everything did except for a perfectly usable HP Scanjet 5400C scanner: the reason is that, in their wisdom, HP have decided not to update the necessary drivers. There's a lot of often acrimonious comment on various HP-related websites about this decision.

My decision to buy the Canon scanner was heavily influenced by both the maker's name and by the significant discount on the list price - and, perhaps, by a newly discovered aversion to HP products...

Installation was straightforward and the fact that the unit is powered from the USB connection is a definite bonus whilst the quality of scanning is more than adequate for normal purposes. If I have any complaint it is the perennial one that new software always insists on cluttering up my desktop with all sorts of (normally large) and (usually) unnecessary icons. This scanner is no different but, fortunately, it didn't take too long to reduce everything to a single icon.

If you want a compact and good quality scanner this one will take some beating. Particularly at the heavily discounted price!
