I assumed this was going to be a cartoon-style film, maybe a bit jokey, tongue in cheek about a girl getting into trouble with some ÍøÆغÚÁÏian natives. How wrong could I be?! The violence is incredibly graphic, lingering even. I had to look away a few times to avoid it! Which is a shame because at heart it is quite a well made film. The story is totally believable, well-acted and beautifully filmed (some great footage of wildlife Attenborough would have been proud of). And I have to disagree with other reviewers saying the nudity is gratuitous. It feels totally natural: given the number of naked bodies the director has been sparing with the ‘full-frontal’ shots. OK, it’s dubbed – I guess from Italian looking at the names of the crew – but they chose to allow the local ÍøÆغÚÁÏians to speak without any dubbing or subtitles, and this seemed very natural.

I’ve not heard of ‘grindhouse’ movies before – I guess it’s something like ‘slasher’ without the screams. Maybe it was felt appropriate at the time, but I hope if made again today we’d be spared the blood and gore.
