In the 12 years since purchasing from ÍøÆغÚÁÏ, I have only left a very few reviews. This is one of them.
I bought this test kit because one of my two cars is using coolant with no signs of exterior leaks. The same night the order arrived, I performed several tests at home after reading other reviews claiming it to be a scam product: 1) I poured some water from a bottle into a moka boiler and connected the tester. When the testing fluid started bubbling, it quickly turned yellow. My initial thought was: "I got scammed as well". 2) The second test involved insufflating my breath into the tester, which turned yellow after a few seconds. 3) The last test was blowing hot air using a hairdryer, and this time the fluid stayed blue.
Finally, I had the chance to test the car the day after. The fluid turned yellow after a few minutes of the suggested procedure. I then tested my second car, which doesn't have any coolant issues at all. The fluid stayed blue even after 10 minutes of bubbles in and out of the expansion tank.
What's the significance of all these tests? The fluid changes color when in contact with a high concentration of CO2 and: 1) Water in general contains CO2. The colder it is, the higher the amount that can be stored in it, so when heated up in a boiler, it starts releasing it. 2) Human breath contains CO2 because lungs take oxygen from the air you breathe in and release CO2 into the air the you breath out. 3) Ambient air also contains CO2, but not in a concentration high enough to trigger a color change in the fluid, especially if heated by a hairdryer.
So, what's the difference with the engine coolant, which contains water? If there are no head gasket failures, the engine coolant, unlike the water in a bottle, has a low content of CO2 for several reasons, and when heated up, there is not enough release of CO2 to detect it in the tester. If the head gasket has a failure, CO2 from the combustion gets into the coolant and saturates it, making it easily detectable. That is the difference between the two tests carried out on my two cars.
What's the difference instead between the reviewers who left negative reviews here and people who talk about something without having the skills, knowledge, qualification, or entitlement to do so, or spread fake social media news? Unfortunately, none.
