- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2024I needed a new TV stand but was really struggling to find one that fitted all my needs: 140cm wide, sturdy, with enough open shelving (of sufficient heights) to house my Wii, Wii games, 2 NAS boxes, MiniPC, and a 43cm wide DVD player...
Then I found this HOMCOM unit and it was about as close to perfect as I could have hoped.
Assembly was fairly straightforward; the instructions recommended 2+ people, so I roped in some help from me and myself and using the provided allen key we got the job done with minimal hassle by just following the included pictorial guide. It was also nice to discover at the end that there were 2 extra screws of both types included. At least I'm hoping they are spares...
Once assembled, the unit is actually impressively sturdy, spreading weight across 8 steel legs, each tipped with plastic feet so sliding it across the laminate flooring did not produce any scratches.
Happily, I was able to transfer all my devices over to the new unit, however this does bring me to my only minor complaint about the unit: the lower spaces on both sides are not *quite* tall enough to easily accept an upright Wii Game / DVD case.
With a little bit of shuffling and rotating, yes, you can fit some in, but if the lower shelves were just 1cm lower, I think they could have been perfect. That said, the upper spaces on both sides are more than spacious enough to accommodate them, so not quite a deal-breaker, just a disappointment and caused me to rethink how to arrange everything.
On the subject of potential improvements, my personal view is that by raising both of the central shelves by perhaps 1-2cm, enough space could be created to include a wide storage drawer right at the bottom of the unit in place of the empty space. From my photo, you can see that I added several little storage drawers for odds and ends, but this was always something I knew I would need to do so am not marking the unit down at all - merely providing feedback as something the designers may want to look into to elevate this unit to true realms of perfection! ;)
