Well, as an 80's child it goes without saying the original Star Wars trioligy rates highly in my all time fave films... Which is why i purchased this new edition as i was itching to find out if they had further improved on the previous dvd release. I feel like im in a minority when i say i actualy prefer the special editions of these films, most of the new cgi fits in seemlessly apart from the infamous Han Solo treading on Jabas tail debarkle.. First the good news.. The picture is crisp and clear, especialy facial close ups and the detail you can now see inside the falcon etc is truly amazing considering these films are 3 decades old! The sound is pin sharp and if you are lucky enough to listen through a home theater system every gun shot and light saber swoosh will sound like its in the room with you... If you need to foward or rewind during the movies you get a handy scene by scene marker which pops up so you can jump to the exact place you want.. Now the bad stuff.. The actual case cover is shockingly bad, very plain and cheap looking, i would have liked to see a metalic case or a black moulded case in the shape of Darths iconic mask. Although the picture quality is amazing you have to remember just how old they are so will never look truly faultless.. If you already own the last dvd release of the trioligy i wouldnt rush out to buy the blu ray copies just yet as the old dvd versions do still look superb compared to other movies of a similar age.. So thats about it really.. The bottom line is, if you dont own these movies on dvd.. I would run, not walk to your local store and get the blu ray versions! If you do already have the dvd copies, and there cant be anyone in the galaxy who hasnt! I would maybe put this release on your xmas prez wish list or rent them from your video store and who knows.. In another 20 years time i may be writting a review about the 3d hologram re-issue!
