If you would like to know more about the legislation on the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and packaging in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may find the information below useful.
To preserve, protect and improve the quality of the environment, protect health and utilize natural resources prudently, the European Member States and the United Kingdom have adopted directives on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and waste batteries, which have been transposed into UK law.
These directives and the implementing UK legislation cover disposal of WEEE and waste batteries because these items may contain hazardous substances which, if exposed, may have a serious detrimental effect on the environment and health. WEEE and waste batteries must be specifically collected and treated by designated local waste facility centers and by collection schemes authorised by governmental authorities.
Do not discard these items with general household waste.
ÍøÆغÚÁÏ has joined the following UK collection scheme for WEEE and waste batteries:
ERP UK Ltd the UK operation of European Recycling Platform (ERP). http://www.erp-recycling.co.uk/
WEEE and waste batteries can often be disposed of free of charge at local municipal collection points. For more information about where you can drop off your WEEE and waste batteries near you for recycling, please go to the online search facility of Valpak (a take-back scheme officially approved by the government) at www.recycle-more.co.uk, or (for battery recycling) to ERP's search facilities at http://www.erp-batteries.co.uk/. You can also contact your local city office, waste authority, or your household waste disposal service.
All electrical and electronic equipment must be marked with the symbol above to indicate that it is not to be disposed of with your household waste.
All batteries or their packaging must be marked with the symbol above to indicate that they are not to be disposed of with your household waste.
