Artist bios

An English power trio fronted by guitarist/vocalist Jamie Hall, Brighton's Tigercub utilizes alternative rock, post-grunge, punk, and stoner metal elements to craft their dense and distinctive maximalist hard rock. The band issued a string of well-received EPs before unveiling the commanding full-length Abstract Figures in the Dark in 2016. The introspective though no less heavy As Blue as Indigo appeared in 2021, with the bracing Perfume of Decay, the group's first outing for Loosegroove Records, arriving in 2023.

Formed in 2011 by Hall and drummer James Allix while attending University in Brighton, Tigercub became a three-piece in 2012 with the addition of bassist Jimi Wheelwright. The band debuted their punchy, Muse-meets QOTSA-style art-metal and brash but melodic indie/alt-rock on the self-released 2013 EP, Hands. Tigercub supported Royal Blood on their 2014 U.K. tour and inked a deal with Venn Records ahead of the release of 2015's Repressed Semantics EP. 2016's punk/grunge-leaning full-length Abstract Figures in the Dark was issued on British indie Alcopop!, and garnered positive press at home and abroad. The band went on a short hiatus after the release of the 2017 EP Evolve or Die, with Hall branching off to focus on his pop/rock side project, Nancy.

Tigercub returned in 2021 with their U.K.-charting sophomore long-player As Blue as Indigo. Released on Blame Records, the album saw Hall and company deliver an inward-looking set of songs tackling themes of mental health, death, and toxic masculinity while sharpening the sonic heft of its predecessors. Tigercub's third full-length, 2023's hard-hitting Perfume of Decay, followed a similar trajectory, and was released through Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard and Brad drummer Regan Hagar's Loosegroove Records. ~ James Christopher Monger
