A singer/actress/model with billions of streams to her name, Tini is a highly popular artist in her native Argentina and around the world. Starting with 2016's Tini, she quickly established a reputation as an in-demand pop star that she built on with albums such as 2018's Quiero volver and Tini Tini Tini from 2020 (the same year she was named Billboard Argentina's Artist of the Year), singles including 2019's "22," 2021's "Miénteme," and 2022's "La Triple T," and collaborations with artists ranging from Sebastián Yatra to Alesso. Tini's fourth LP, Cupido, appeared in 2023, showcasing a genre-crossing blend of cumbia, reggaeton, and Latin pop. It hit the Top 50 of Billboard's Latin Albums chart. The deeply personal and equally stylistically adventurous Un Mechón de Pelo arrived in 2024.
Born Martina Stoessel, Tini found international stardom as Violetta Castillo on the Disney Channel teen telenovela Violetta in the 2010s. A native of Buenos Aires, she's the daughter of Brazilian television director Alejandro Stoessel and was immersed in the performance arts from a young age. A student of voice, piano, dance, and acting, she made her television debut as a guest on the kids' comedy series Patito Feo at the age of 11.
In 2011, Stoessel was booked to record a song for the Disney Princess: Fairy Tale Songs collection. She later performed it on Disney Channel Latin America's televised New Year's Eve special, Celebratón. The following year, at the age of 15, she won the lead role of Violetta Castillo in the popular Disney telenovela Violetta. The show was about a teenage musician who returns home to Buenos Aires after living in Europe. During its three-season run, she was featured on several music releases associated with the series, including 2012's Violetta [Original Soundtrack] and 2014's Violetta: En Vivo. In May 2014, Stoessel published an autobiography called Simplemente Tini about her childhood and transition to life in the international spotlight. The final episode of Violetta aired in February 2015 and was followed by a show tour that sold over a million tickets across four continents.
The year 2016 would bring even greater career landmarks for Stoessel with the release of Tini: The Movie (Tini: El Gran Cambio de Violetta) in theaters and her first solo album, both arriving in various countries between April and July. Issued as a double CD by the Hollywood label, her Tini debut, Tini (Martina Stoessel), included 12 pop tunes by the singer as well as a nine-track soundtrack from the movie. It landed on several European countries' charts and debuted at number one in her native Argentina. In April 2018, Tini released the single "Princesa," which featured Karol G. The track was included in her sophomore album, Quiero volver, which was issued that October and featured additional guest spots from Morat, Sebastián Yatra, and Cali & El Dandee.
In 2019, in addition to her position as a judge on the talent show Pequeños Gigantes Argentina, Tini dueted with Greeicy on "22," which became her first Top Ten single on the Argentina Hot 100 singles chart. That year, she also featured Lalo Ebratt on her hit song "Fresa," her first Top Five single on the chart, and scored another Top Five hit with the Yatra duet "Oye." In 2020, she appeared in the two-part documentary Tini Quiero Volver Tour and served as a coach on the seventh season of La Voz Spain. More high-placing singles, including the John C collaboration "Duele" and "Un Beso en Madrid" featuring Alejandro Sanz, preceded December 2020's full-length Tini Tini Tini, which Stoessel co-wrote with Latin Grammy-winning producers Andres Torres and Mauricio Rengifo. The week of the album's release, Stoessel performed the livestream concert Tini Tini Tini Live.
In 2021, she worked with Maria Becerra on the single "Miénteme," which hit number one in Argentina. Stoessel kicked off 2022 with the singles "La Triple T" and "La Loto." Both tracks appeared on her fourth long-player, Cupido. Released in 2023, the album added elements of cumbia and reggaeton to her cosmopolitan Latin dance-pop sound. A top five album in Argentina, it also cracked the Top 50 of Bilboard's Latin Albums chart.
While on her Tini Tour in 2022 and 2023, Stoessel began work on her fifth album. Titled Un Mechón de Pelo (or, a lock of hair) the album arrived in April 2024 and found the singer again working with producers Andres Torres and Mauricio Rengifo, as well as Felipe Contreras and Zecca. Another genre-crossing and deeply personal album, it included the singles, "Pa," an emotional ballad about almost losing her father, the electronic, R&B-infused anthem "Posta," and the acoustic guitar-accented ballad "Buenos Aires." ~ Marcy Donelson & Heather Phares
Able to effortlessly transition from a verse filled with hardcore rap to a hooky pop chorus in either Spanish or English, Becky G has an impressive range. While still a teenager, she worked alongside artists like Cody Simpson and Kesha before breaking out with her solo hit "Shower" in 2014. As she released a steady stream of singles, G also branched out into acting, appearing in the 2017 Power Rangers movie, then landing a big Latin hit with her Bad Bunny collaboration "Mayores." The song later appeared on her 2019 debut album, Mala Santa, which hit the Top Five on the Latin charts. Another string of singles carried her into the next decade, including 2020's "No Drama" with Ozuna and 2022's "Mamiii" with Karol G, before she returned to the Top Five of the Latin Albums chart with her sophomore album, Esquemas. Staring with 2023's, Esquinas, she delivered two consecutive albums celebrating the Regional Mexican music she grew up with. Encuentros followed a year later.
Born and raised in Inglewood, California, Rebbeca Marie Gomez began her career at the age of 14, uploading cover versions of popular songs like Kanye West and Jay-Z's "Otis" and Frank Ocean's "Novacane" to video-sharing services. Using the stage name Becky G, she amassed an online following and caught the attention of producer Dr. Luke, who signed her to his Sony-owned Kemosabe imprint. At first, she focused on features, joining Cody Simpson on his 2012 single "Wish U Were Here" and appearing on the remix of Kesha's single "Die Young." Her own debut single, "Becky from the Block," landed in 2013 alongside her EP Play It Again. A year later, G's single "Shower" became a breakout hit and cracked the U.S. Top 20, eventually going multi-platinum. She followed it up later in the year with the Pitbull-assisted "Can't Get Enough" and logged time on the road opening for both Demi Lovato and Katy Perry.
In 2017, Becky G's career got another boost when she appeared in the feature film Power Rangers playing Trini, the yellow Power Ranger. In July of that year, she scored a major Latin chart hit with "Mayores," a collaboration with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. She returned to English in July 2018 with "Zooted," featuring French Montana and Farruko, and was also featured on Kane Brown's song "Lost in the Middle of Nowhere." In October 2019, G finally released her debut full-length album, Mala Santa. Along with the previously released "Mayores," the record spawned the spotlight tracks "Sin Pijama" with Natti Natasha, "Cuando Te Besé" with Paulo Londra, and "Dollar" featuring Myke Towers. The set peaked at number three on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. Also that year, she paired with Anitta for "Banana" and joined Maluma for the song "La Respuesta." More stand-alone tracks arrived in 2020, including "Perdiendo la Cabeza" with Carlos Rivera and Pedro Capó, "Muchacha" with Gente de Zona, and "No Drama" with Ozuna.
Becky G and Natti Natasha joined forces again in 2021 on "Ram Pam Pam," which was followed by "Fulanito" featuring El Alfa. The following year saw G team up with Karol G on the single "Mamiii." All of this led up to the release of the singer's sophomore full-length album, 2022's disco- and reggaeton-infused Esquemas, which cracked the Top 20 of the Hot 100 and hit number one on the Latin Pop Albums chart. She followed in March 2023 with the Omega-assisted non-album single "Arranca." That September, she returned with her third full-length, the Edgar Barrera-produced Esquinas. Anchored by the singles "Chanel" (with Peso Pluma) and "La Nena" (with Gabito Ballesteros), the album found her embracing a mix of traditional horn- and guitar-driven Regional Mexican styles. It hit number 109 on the Billboard 200 and reached the Top Ten of the Latin charts. Along with the solo single "Boomerang," G teamed up with El Alfa and the Black Eyed Peas for "Tonight" from the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack in the front half of 2024. The hit "Mercedes" with Oscar Maydon led to the October's Encuentros, another regional Mexican release and her fourth studio album. ~ David Jeffries
Anitta is a globally renowned singer, songwriter, actress, social media influencer, and entrepreneur from Brazil. A natural alto, she has been at the forefront of the Latin pop explosion since "Meiga e Abusada," her 2012 debut single, won her a contract with Warner Bros. In 2013, her self-titled debut album topped the Brazilian charts and was certified platinum. After 2014's Ritmo Perfeito charted in several countries, she made her acting debut in the comedy Copa de Elite and founded her own management and production companies. Her 2015 album Bang! was certified platinum in Brazil, garnering an invitation to perform at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games alongside Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. 2018's "Downtown," featuring J Balvin, was certified six-times platinum. 2019's trilingual Kisses offered ten tracks with an accompanying video for each. The set went Top Five on the U.S. Latin Pop chart. In 2022 she headlined both weekend stages at Coachella, and issued the long-awaited, trilingual Versions of Me; it broke streaming records and was certified diamond upon release. Funk Generation, an entire album of funk carioca tracks, appeared in 2024.
Born Larissa de Macedo Machado on March 30, 1993, and brought up in the impoverished favela neighborhood of Honório Gurgel in Rio de Janeiro, she began singing in church as a child and learned to dance before getting into baile funk as a teenager. She took her stage name from the central character in the TV mini-series Presença de Anita (Anita's Presence), based on the 1948 proto-Lolita novel by Mário Donato. When she was 17, one of her YouTube videos was discovered by funk Svengali and super-producer DJ Batutinha, who invited her to audition for him and subsequently signed her to his label, releasing her first single, "Eu Vou Ficar" (I'll Stay). In 2012, she was bought out of her contract by entrepreneur Kamilla Fialho, who became her manager (the two would later go on to become embroiled in a long-running multi-million-dollar legal dispute; she was later co-managed by her brother Renan Machado). On the strength of her single "Meiga e Abusada" (Sweet and Abused), Anitta was signed by Warner Music, which released her eponymous debut album in 2013.
The Anitta LP combined the sinuous rhythms of her funk roots with a modern, American-inspired electro-pop/R&B sound to great success. Her debut single for the label, "Show das Poderosas" (Powerful Girls' Show), became Brazil's most-watched YouTube video ever (130 million views) and that year's number three song on Brazilian radio. The album was certified platinum by Pro-Música Brasil, the country's official music industry trade organization.
The albums Ritmo Perfeito (Perfect Rhythm, 2014) and Bang (2015) followed in swift succession, the latter went to number two on Brazil's album charts and sold more than 300,000 copies, and a string of popular singles and wildly popular videos featuring a succession of well-known guest artists boosted her visibility. With her sweet, silky voice, sexy image, self-created choreography, and high-profile social media presence, she quickly became a national celebrity, but had yet bigger plans.
Anitta's first step toward an international career came in 2016, when she was selected to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in her home city alongside countrymen Caetono Veloso and Gilberto Gil. She also issued the single "Sim ou Não"/"Sà o No" featuring Maluma; it achieved triple diamond and gold certification.
In 2017, she was a featured collaborator on rapper Iggy Azalea's "Switch"; it was her first English-language performance. The remainder of the year was marked by a series of singles including the hit "Paradinha," Is That for Me" with Alesso, and the multi-platinum "Downtown" with J Balvin. 2018 began with another J Balvin collaboration in "Machika," a charting single that also featured Jeon. Throughout that year, she kept up a steady stream of singles including the Silva collaboration "Fica Tudo Bem" and the solo hit "Medicina," as well as the EP Solo that included tracks recorded and released between September and December. All told, Anitta released eight singles, three were certified gold and four were certified platinum or multi-platinum, while her videos registered hundreds of millions of views.
All of this helped lay the groundwork for her fourth album, Kisses. Released in 2019, it marked the artist's first tri-lingual album with tracks sung in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. The diamond-certified set featured a diverse roster of guests from Snoop Dogg, Mambo Kingz, and DJ Luian to Prince Royce, Alesso, and Veloso, and took home a Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album. That year, she signed a global management deal with Brandon Silverstein's S10 Entertainment. Anitta also appeared on the track "Faz Gostoso" on Madonna's Madame X long-player.
The front half of 2020 found Anitta collaborating with Major Lazer ("Make It Hot"), Ozuna ("Muito Calor"), and Psirico ("Jogacao"), as well as appearing on several episodes of the Brazilian telenovela Amor de Mãe. In September 2020, she released the single and video for "Me Gusta" featuring Cardi B and Myke Towers. The first pre-release single from a forthcoming album, the track went to number five on the Hot Latin Songs chart and became her first entry on the Hot 100. She placed the single "Furiosoa" on the soundtrack to F9, and issued "Girl from Rio," an autobiographical song that liberally sampled Tom Jobim's and Vinicius de Moraes' classic "Girl from Ipanema." It charted, as did remixes with Da Baby and DJ Snakehips. In November, she issued the single "Envolver." After registering well inside the top half of Hot 100, the song broke a string of records, including one for most streamed song in a single day, and the first song ever to place inside the Top 50 of all Latin countries on a streaming service. That year she took home the MTV Millennial Awards Brazil for Best Musical Artist.
In 2022, Anitta played the voice role of LetÃcia dos Anjos in the animated film Hitpig alongside Peter Dinklage, Lily Singh, and Rainn Wilson. In April she issued the long-awaited Versions of Me, led by the single "Gata" (feat. Chencho Corleone), that wed neoperreo and carioca funk. The tri-lingual set opened with more than six million streams on its first day. It also earned nearly 112 million on-demand song streams in the U.S. in April, and entered the Heatseekers chart at number two. Anitta played both weekends of the Coachella festival as a headliner and continued her prolific run with "Lobby," a collaboration with Missy Elliott, and an EP À Procura da Anitta Perfeita. Her first outing of 2023 was the hard-hitting summer jam "Funk Rave." The track appeared on the EP Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story. In 2024, Anitta released Funk Generation, an entire album in the funk carioca style. ~ John D. Buchanan
