The mysteriously masked five-piece BLACKGOLD broke out of nowhere leading a new wave of nü metal. Debuting in 2022 with their statement of intent "It’s Art," the group went on to release three EPs, Blackgold, 2023's Volume 2, and 2024's Back with Another One.

Formed in the U.K. by vocalist Spookz, guitarist Judge, bassist Six6, DJ SP3, and drummer Lux in 2020, the five-piece looked to the classic age of nü metal for inspiraton, taking cues from Slipknot, Korn, and Limp Bizkit. Their debut single, "It’s Art," was released in 2022, and their self-titled EP arrived just a few months later. The group teamed up with Fever 333 for an explosive cover of Cypress Hill’s "I Ain't Going Out Like That." In 2023 they debuted their live show in a support slot for Limp Bizkit for dates across Europe; they released their sophomore EP, Volume 2, midway through the year. More live dates followed at Leimentaler Openair, 2000trees, and Download Festival before they embarked on a tour with Welsh rap-reggae metallers, Skindred. Teaming up with Houston's Hyro the Hero, BLACKGOLD rounded out the year with the classic, '90s-inspired hip-hop track, "Old School Sound." Kicking off 2024 with the Marilyn Manson-esque track "Today's My Day," the band issued their third EP, Back with Another One, in May. ~ Rich Wilson
