Mexico's Sofia Reyes is a vibrant multilingual pop vocalist with a bent toward mixing dance-oriented pop, reggaeton, and R&B. Reyes initially garnered attention with the song "Sólo Yo" featuring Prince Royce, before cracking the Top Ten of the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart with her 2017 debut Louder!
Born Úrsula SofÃa Reyes Piñeyro in 1995 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Reyes began singing and playing piano around age ten. Two years later, she was writing songs with her father and uploading cover songs to YouTube. Her videos captured the attention of singer/producer Prince Royce, who signed her to his D'Leon Records imprint. In 2013 she released her first single, "Forever Now," featuring rapper/singer/actor Khleo Thomas. A year later, Reyes returned with the song "'Muevelo," featuring rapper Wisin. In 2016 Reyes released two more singles, "Sólo Yo"/"Nobody But Me" (once again featuring Prince Royce) and "Llegaste Tú" (featuring Reykon), while also making guest appearances on releases by Cash Cash ("How to Love") and Spencer Ludwig ("Diggy").
Reyes' long-awaited debut album, Louder!, arrived in early 2017 on Warner Music Latina and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart. The next year, she issued "Vamos por la Estrella" with Paty Cantú and Kap G. The buoyant single was written for the Mexican national soccer team and their entry in the 2018 World Cup. Early 2019 saw the release of vibrant trilingual single "R.I.P.," which saw Reyes team up with U.K. singer-actress Rita Ora and Brazilian pop superstar Anitta. The performing moniker of Daniel Balderrama, DannyLux is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who combines corrido and sad sierreño with classic and alternative rock. The Palm Springs, California native found mainstream success in 2020 after featuring on Eslabon Armado "Jugaste Y SufrÃ," which reached number one on Billboard's Latin Songwriters chart. The following year, he served as the opening act for nine nights of Coldplay's extended Mexican tour. Since then, Balderrama has blazed his own trail, issuing acclaimed efforts like Las Dos Caras Del Amor (2021), Perdido En Ti (2022), and DLUX (2023) that are rooted in the myriad musical styles within his dual Mexican-American heritage. ~ James Christopher Monger
