Artist bios

London's FLO are known for a bright, pop-oriented contemporary R&B sound that places them in a lineage of vocal groups such as fellow English acts Eternal and Sugababes, along with the likes of Destiny's Child and 3LW. Singers Renée Downer, Stella Quaresma, and Jorja Douglas -- all of whom also co-write the majority of their material -- charted in 2022 with their debut single, the blithe breakup song "Cardboard Box." The Missy Elliott collaboration "Fly Girl" put them in the U.K. Top 40 the next year. "Cardboard Box" earned a BRIT Certified Silver Award by the time the group entered the album chart at number three with Access All Areas, their first full-length.

The London-based group formed in 2019. Renée Downer and Stella Quaresma met at Sylvia Young Theatre School and continued together at East London Arts and Music. Through social media, they knew Jorja Douglas -- who in 2017 won series two of the British talent show Got What It Takes? -- before meeting her at an audition. They soon became a trio, developed material over the next few years, and landed a recording contract with Island Records. Collaborating with hitmaker MNEK as producer, the three debuted in March 2022 with "Cardboard Box," a single they co-wrote with fellow songwriter Savannah Jade. Four months later, FLO issued "Immature," produced by MNEK and Jamal Woon. Both singles appeared that September on The Lead, a six-song EP that yielded the group's third single, "Not My Job."

FLO's ascent continued in 2023 when they teamed with Missy Elliott for the number 38 hit "Fly Girl," and released the three-song 3 of Us EP. A succession of album previews began the following March with "Walk Like This," another MNEK-assisted single. After they opened for Kehlani in the U.S. throughout September and October of 2024, FLO issued Access All Areas, which appropriately landed at number three upon its November release. ~ Andy Kellman
