I have 3 x 24" Monitors, and I've been using two freestanding mounts to support the monitors for about a year now. However, it's always bothered me with the amount of space they took up. If you look at the pictures, you'll see the stand that supports the centre and right monitor just gets in the way of the mouse, and takes up a fair bit of space.
I decided to take the plunge and pick up a grommet mounted monitor stand which supports three screens. (My desk doesn't even have a pre-cut grommet hole either, so this was always a factor in whether I should buy one or not, and I can't use a desk clamp either as the desk has a board at the back of it, which I've mounted an extension lead on to, and would only get in the way of the clamp).
My preferred setup is to have 2 x 24" screens horizontally, and the third screen in a vertical position. But for those who are wondering, this mount would comfortably hold 3 x 24" monitors horizontally.
The installation went well. It does take time to set up, especially if, like me, you prefer the grommet installation and you don't have a pre-cut hole! But with that said, everything went to plan. My screens are mounted securely, there's no wobble like I've seen mentioned in other reviews (Perhaps they haven't tightened the right screws?). The main pole affixed to the desk is as solid as a rock, my desk feels more spacious and the whole setup in my opinion is aesthetically pleasing! An added bonus with this mount is that the centre monitor bracket can be moved up and down a fair way, meaning I was able to get my centre and right monitor (both different brands) level with each other - something I couldn't do with my previous mount!
