Product description
You can't beat an Italian zombie movie and here's one of the best, looking yuckier than ever in this sensational 4K UHD presentation.
There's been a nasty outbreak of the living dead in Papua New Guinea and it's up to an intrepid reporter (Margit Evelyn Newton), her cameraman (Gaby Renom) and an on-hand squad of commandoes to find out why – and to try and stop it. There are disgusting special effects, some unexpected adversaries (a zombie rat, a zombie child and a zombie granny!) plus head-shots galore: truly, a film with something for everyone.
Co-written by Claudio Fragrasso (inspired auteur of Troll 2) and directed by exploitation ace Bruno Mattei (Rats Night of Terror; Violence in a Woman's Prison), 88 Films are proud to present this classic of family entertainment full-blooded shocker in all its gory glory!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 202388 films have done a smashing job with their releases as of late and their 4K Blu-ray of Hell of the Living Dead is no exception. An enjoyable zombie film with some great gore and a decent score. The 4K Blu-ray sports brilliant picture quality, crystal clear sound and plenty of extras. Definitely one to pick up if you are Video Nasty collector or if you like Zombie Films.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 March 2023This is not the greatest zombie film but certainly interesting and near rip of Dawn Of The Dead. 4K doesn't help at times as the blood seems to be more pink than red and the dubbing is out of sinc a few noticeable times.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 May 2012This review is for the 88films 4K Blu-ray.
PLOT...
After an experiment gone wrong, a virus that turns people into zombies spreads throughout New Guinea. A female reporter and her cameraman, and a team of four commandos sent to investigate try to survive the onslaught.
Hell of the living dead AKA Zombie creeping flesh 1980 is another crazy cult zombie movie from back in the day when these movies were very popular, a cheesy story as usual with a bunch of bad acting and silly situations but brilliant none the less, plenty excuse for blood and gore which there's plenty of, lots of bloody head shots and people getting bites out of them, all good practical effects. Good music from Goblin that's been used in many other zombie movies already! Some nice nudity too from our female lead, its certainly one worth adding to the cult zombie horror collection now it has this sweet 4K new release from 88films.
Blu-ray and 4K disc look great for 1980. 2-Discs.
Features include commentary, trailer, VHS featurette and plenty interviews (129mins)
4K Disc commentary only. All other features on Blu-ray disc.
Region FREE ABC 4K and B Blu-ray. Running time 100mins. 1980.
English dub. Italian with English subtitles.
Comes with a nice slipcase and booklet and A3 double sided poster.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2023If you like low budget Italian Exploitation Horror, then this is a solid 5/10. If you don't then you'll probably hate it.
88 Films did a great job on the transfer, the Dolby Vision really helps the colours pop. Artwork is great and the poster is pretty cool. Good release.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 March 2023The positives - the 4k scan looks superb - head and shoulders above any other previous release.
The negatives - there are sections where the colour is totally off - red becomes magenta or pink and it is very distracting.
Overall - superb picture combined with very bad colour errors at some parts.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2015The reviews here are very kind to this Bruno Mattei bodge job, but realistically it is unremittingly terrible.
Other reviewers have commented on the unintentional comedy, the lousy script, the interminable stock footage of wildlife which destroys any build up of tension, the wooden acting and all manner of other misdemeanours.
They excuse the faults because they claim to have found the film highly entertaining.
While I respect their views I would beg to differ.
The film follows a pair of journalists and a unit of soldiers who travel round in a Jeep and experience a variety of encounters with zombies after an accident at a chemical plant.
I found the whole set up very stilted and really quite boring. There are some absolutely ludicrous scenes. For example when the female journo has to lose her clothes and paint her boobs so that she can go and parley with the natives!.
The soldiers know the zombies can only be killed by a head shot, yet steadfastly refuse to do this simple thing.
The zombies for some unfathomable reason move like effeminate marionettes.
At over 100 minutes, I felt that this movie well outstayed its welcome.
Whilst the special effects were pretty good, I couldn't get past the storyline, script and acting problems.
If it had been shaved down to about 75 Minutes without all the unnecessary footage of elephants , bats, cranes and all other inconsequential diversions I might have given it another star.
My advice would be to stick with Romero who understands how to drive a movie along.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 May 2023Probably the worst zombie I have ever seen and I've seen some stinkers. Barely coherent. Ghastly acting. Amateurish make-up. And those are the best features. Also known as 'Zombie Creeping Flesh' and a pile of other titles too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 December 2023Glad I didn't waste my money. Looked promising but decided to watch first before I invested. Glad I did as the movies terrible. Badly written, badly directed, badly acted. You name it, they did it badly. Don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious mess!
Goes without saying that movie is completely unwatchable, but that is its particular charm. Nobody would ever consider this high art or even great trash, but it is endlessly, jaw-droppingly funny and inane. Some of the best random dialogue ever and obvious stock footage (to pad the running time) just add to the kookiness of it all. Gather some friends, a few drinks and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars They Eat The Living....but you can't eat while watching it
I just recently got "hell of the living dead" or what i know the movie better as "night of the zombies" and i was scared of the quality of the movie but i was truly surprised when i got it. I remember watching this movie when i was younger for my father had it on VHS but the quality was so terrible it was hard to tell what was going on. But after watching the movie and seeing the condition it was in i was so happy and so glad i bought the movie. The quality looked like they took their time remastering the movie. I don't really need to give the plot since so many others have gave there summary of the movie. All you need to know is that the movie has a fairly loss story line that strings together for a pretty dark ending. If you are like me and love Blood and guts, also T&A this is your movie there is very few boring moments in the movie every 5 to 10 minutes there's a zombie munching on someone and gunfire going off. This movie also has some comedic moments to it where one of the soldiers dress's in a tutu and begins singing "singing in the rain" with a surprise at the end. Might i also add FINALLY! and I MEAN FINALLY YOU HAVE SOMEBODY THAT KEEPS REPEATING SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD and doesn't keep shooting them in the stomach and chest hoping to kill them. Also as my title refers to there are moments in this movie where its so gruesome that if your eating you have to stop or turn the tv off cause it finally gets to you. This movie is not for the screamish but is a good movie to sit down and watch when you have a date with you or having nothing better to do during the weekend.
I'm also surprised with the special features this DVD carries
-Trailer: which seems to be almost remastered unlock other old movies i bought where they have remastered the movie but not the trailer i give them credit for doing it here.
-Bruno Mattei Featurette: I 9 minute mini movie with Bruno talking about Both "Hell of the living dead" and "Rats" and talking about what inspired him and what he liked and hated about each movie.
-Poster & still Gallery: not bad little special feature showing the original movie posters that came out for it
5/5 in my book truly a guilty pleasure lets hope we keep seeing the Italian horror movies keep coming out and not fade into history and forgotten.
Lets remember the other movies that started the zombie craze besides for "George A Romero" movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Virus (Edizione UK 4K+bd 2023)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic
You have to be into cheesy '70s Zombie flicks to like it.
