Product description

From Saturday morning cartoon to the big screen in one muscle-bound leap, Dolph Lundgren brings an animated icon to life in Masters of the Universe. On the distant planet of Eternia the battle for Castle Grayskull has begun, and He-Man (Lundgren) must round up his army to fight off the powers of darkness led by Skeletor (an unrecognisable Frank Langella) and his horde of evil underlings. Big-budget with even bigger set-pieces, this far-out fantasy brings the henched hero vividly to life with memorable swordfights and even more memorable effects.

"..CULT CLASSIC 80'S ACTION ADVENTURE.."

"..CULT CLASSIC 80'S ACTION ADVENTURE.."
PLOT...The evil Skeletor has designs on conquering the planet Eternia, a ravaged utopia. To achieve this he needs the cosmic key which is hidden on earth, a waitress and her boyfriend discover the cosmic key and become involved in a battle between good and evil with the help of He-man the most powerful man in the universe.Masters of the universe was released in 1987 and for the time this was made its a pretty huge movie! The story itself is rather cheesy and silly but at the same time so much fun! the production value on this movie is amazing in the best possible way only the 80's could do, amazing set pieces and vehicles, the costumes and make-up is incredible for the time and even the CGI effects are so retro and cool, even though things were obviously sacrificed away from the animated version to make the live action work it still comes over great, the casting was spot on at the time I feel with Dolph Lundgren playing the perfect He-man, the rest of the cast is good too with Frank Langella playing a cheesy but fun evil Skeletor and Meg Foster is a perfect sexy Evil-Lyn. This movie is an 80's cult classic action adventure and is so much fun to go back too every once in a while. Love the old Cannon films logo at the beginning too so many good memories. make sure you add this to your collection. This metal edition book is amazing, one of the best I've seen in a long time, beautiful embossing all over the front and back and great usage of the original poster art and logo, maybe Zavvi should take a few notes. The only one little thing that bugs me is there is no movie title on the spine of the metal book. The Blu-ray quality is great, you also get the DVD included. No special features though which is a shame. The movie plays with the full original English audio, suitable for all region B UK players. Running time 106mins

As someone who grew up watching He-Man as a child and loved every minute of the series and loved the live action film, imagine my joy when I find my old copy of Masters of the Universe in the back of one of my drawers, along with a stash of other old video tapes that, like MoTU, have been watched to near death.
Now imagine my utter dismay when I find out that my video player is too old and decrepit to do anything except to be used as a massive black paper weight.
That dismay lasted until I realised I have an internet connection, a bit of spare money and an amazon account. I immediately looked the film up and was over joyed when I found it as a region 2 DVD with plenty of excellent ratings. I loved this film so much as a little girl; the characters, the actors (I still giggle childishly when I watch Star Trek Voyager and I really don't know why...), the story and Gwildor's attempt at communicating with the 'locals'. Skeletor still gives me the creeps, and I still retain my crush on Evil Lynn. The practical effects are fantastic and, on a creative level, inspiring.
And considering the age of the film, it's been ported to DVD very well. The graphics are still as crisp as I remember, there's no wear in the footage and the DVD itself runs nice and smooth on my PS3. The DVD turned up very quickly (a day or two earlier than anticipated), so it gave me the perfect opportunity to have a retro movie marathon that night.
    It was a good night.
If you haven't seen this film and you just want some good old fashioned 80s cheese and you like fantasy, scifi and comic book stuff (I've always found the balance between tech and magic in the MoTU universe to be fairly well balanced), then I recommend it.

This is a entertaining film. Despite its shortcomings I think the actors and productions crew do their best to bring He-Man to life. To me it like a "What If" a more competent Skeletor had won and now He-man and his team were rebels trying to save Eternia.I think Frank Langella saves the film with performance he really seems to enjoy being a bad guy really stands out in this film. I loved the speech he give before Golden Warrior Super Skeletor. Lungren is fine as He-Man who else could of played him at the time. I think it was his first lead and you can tell it was early days as he was far superior in Universal Solider All the actor are pretty charming in an old fashion way the good guys are good and the bad guy are bad simple. Even the Orko type character does come of as annoying. I just think just think budget issues hindered the film from being fully realised. I think the blue ray audio and video are ok I didn't notice anything that put me off enjoying this film. Not a lot of extra apart from the commentary and behind the scene featured I liked it more than when watched it as a kid. Like I said its a enjoyable romp that not too long like some film today that don't know when to end.

Zurück in meine Kindheit.
