Product description
The late great Umberto Lenzi gave audiences some of the most notorious video nasties including his legendary gut-crunchers THE MAN FROM DEEP RIVER (1972) and CANNIBAL FEROX (1981). However, the maestro of macabre, nightmare-making images was rightly most proud of his giallo classics - most famously represented by the colourful intrigue of SPASMO (1974) and the gruelling gore of EYEBALL (1975). For NIGHTMARE BEACH, released in 1988, Lenzi would claim that a troubled production process meant he took a 'backseat' role - although it is difficult not to notice his blood-splashed paw-print all over this terrifying tale of a madman in a motorcycle helmet who is taking out drunk and delicious young co-eds all over the sparkling sands of South Florida. As the body count creeps up, Miami detective John Saxon (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) tries to keep ahead of the curve in this carnage-packed, late-day Lenzi gem that is only now gaining a belated British bow for horror-hungry addicts and completists of Italian trash-terror!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 February 2022I have a large collection of movies most of them horror, including almost all of the slasher and video nasty films so I was surprised that this one really was an entertaining movie.
The premise or plot informed me that this was just another slasher come jump scare journey in fact I enjoyed every moment of it,and yes your figure out who the killer is long before the end but what the heck it was totally watchable throughout, even the deaths are gory for a 15 rated movie,do not take my word for it check it out you might be surprised.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 November 2018Not a bad movie, it comes across as a typical late 80s slasher, full of extremely annoying characters, drunken beach bums and shockingly bad perms. The acting was fair enough although the so called"Demons" biker gang were pretty pathetic, as usual we have the usual Psycho killer bumping people off for a a pretty lame reason, and end up with our pretty apathetic final girl being chased around a scrap yard. All in all, an easy way to pass the time, gore effects could have been better and the psycho is easy to spot from the start. Very professionally made, but doesn't have the fun feel to it that Eyeball has. So , don't expect too much, you've probably seen a lot worse.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2018Another great release of 80's slasher from Lenzi!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 June 2021PLOT...
After the execution of a motorcycle gang leader convicted of murder, a helmeted biker goes on a killing spree during spring break in Florida.
A cheesy but brilliant slasher from Umberto Lenzi Director of Nightmare City! A classic story of young teens getting drunk having fun and getting killed! revenge never looked so cool, a slasher with a motorcycle killer, and plenty good kills, mostly in the form of electrocution, some decent practical effects and a little blood, the cast is good, a few famous faces like Michael Parks and John Saxon, and not forgetting our beautiful lead lady Sarah Buxton, wow what a stunning girl!! This is certainly one really fun unique gem of a horror and a must for the collection.
Blu-ray looks great in HD from 88Films.
Features just an interview with the composer. trailer.
Region B, Running time 91mins UNCUT. 1989/2018.
Language English and Italian. Subtitles English.
Comes with very cool reversible sleeve with more great retro artwork.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 May 2019I remember when this puppy was first released and reviewed in my then favourite periodical 'Fangoria' with the much better title ''Welcome to Spring Break'' sporting a VHS video sleeve cover depicting a crazed biker, screaming lady, blazing beach and for whatever reason - some lightning! Hey, it wasn't high art but boy did it get me hooked. Sad to say, its taken me (my goodness) 30 years to finally getting round to watching it but... was it worth the wait? Did the movie live up to its lurid cover? Will I ever grow up and become a proper adult instead of watching endless dreck? I’d like to say ‘Yes!’ to all of these questions, but I guess you already know the answer…
We first meet motorcycle gang leader and all round bad egg Diablo (Tony Bolano) as he’s about to be executed for the murder of a woman. Vowing he will return from the grave, he is sent to the electric chair (Hey! The lightning on the cover! Face palm) and presumed dead and gone, especially by the sister of the victim Gail (Sarah Buxton) - who decides to get on with her life. Until one year later when Spring Break arrives in Miami and with it, a mysterious biker who appears and begins to murder the assorted revellers in suitably ingenious ways (mostly via ‘electrocution’)… Gail, now a bartender is once again embroiled in the action and butting heads with local police chief Strycher (John Saxon) and physician Dr Willet (Michael Parks) who between them know a little more than they are letting on. As the murders increase and the invading partygoers lose their heads left, right and centre - Gail and new beau Skip (Nicolas De Toth) track down the looney-tune biker and unravel the mystery of the murders once and for all… It couldn’t be a resurrected Diablo, after all. Could it..?
Mostly credited to gore hound extraordinaire Umberto Lenzi (‘Eyeball’, ‘Almost Human’) but in reality directed by an uncredited Harry Kirkpatrick, this efficient but highly unoriginal late in the game slasher flick is a well made effort that won’t rock your world, but with its wild Euro-horror vibe and funky murder sequences - does make for an entertaining 90 minutes. The screenplay by Kirkpatrick and Vittorio Rambaldi is an amusingly silly affair (pre-dating that late 80s ‘return from the electric chair slasher subgenre’ subsequently powered along by ‘Wes Craven’s Shocker’, ‘Prison’ and ‘The Horror Show’) with over the top kills and dopey acting. Thankfully, amidst the stock teen leads - generous support is offered in the form of genre heavyweights John Saxon, Michael Parks and Lance LeGault who not only chew the scenery, but spit it back out with equal aplomb. Argento favourite Claudio Simonetti provides a funky synth score and director Kirkpatrick keeps things moving at a quick pace (well, apart from what seems like an hour of footage depicting teens putting sun cream on their abs), ensuring this one adds up to an amusing time, that although won’t worry the makers of ‘Friday the 13th’, does deliver a trashy trip into Euro horror stupidity.
88 Films’ UK blu-ray release sports a great transfer with vibrant audio and is the first time this movie has been released in the UK. Alongside a selection of extra special features including an interview with composer Simonetti, theatrical trailer, alternative 1.33:1 open matte presentation and the usual reversible sleeve options (with the original ‘Welcome to Spring Break’ art), this package is well worth a peek, especially for slasher flick completists. Its not the best movie out there and may test the patience of newer gore hounds, but for those looking to step back into the ‘80s where the world was bright and horror was fun - its worth a pop. Kinda.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great transfer
I thought the movie was just fair, great transfer though. It's a fun 80's slasher, but not in the top echelon of the genre by any stretch.
