We tested this out the day it arrived as we were planning on oven cooking some sausages. After reading the instructions and washing the plates and splatter guard, we plugged it in and selected the correct settings. Much faster than a fan oven and we were very impressed not only with the speed, but also with the evenness of the cooking. I feared that the speed might leave the centre of the sausage not properly cooked whilst over-cooking the outside, but my fears were unfounded as they were just right. I would urge people to read the instructions carefully as they are not as clear as they could be which could be down to a translation error or some such.
We have also decided to roast some chicken fillets which we would normally do in an oven. The chicken cooked comparatively quickly and retained some moisture whilst having a crisper outside so it seems to work well. We don’t often have steak so have not yet tried the heat probe but assuming it works, is a really good idea to ensure appropriate cooking levels are achieved. The downside with the probe is that it requires the food to be rather thick in order for it to work, meaning smaller foods require some guess work.
This machine appears to be more versatile that a lot of other air fryers on the market and we look forward to experimenting more with it and getting used to the controls and cooking methods. The control panel on the front is clear and useable even when the machine is heated up. Whilst cooking for the first time, we did need to turn on our extractor fan and wished we had placed the cooker underneath it, but remembered to do so the next time. We found cleaning the pan and guard was easy enough without having to put them in the dishwasher. The ‘sump’ has to be cleared of fat prior to washing we found as it did collect a fair bit from the sausages. Like most surface top cookers, this does take up a fair bit of space so bear this in mind if you have a small kitchen. We haven’t tested all of the functions available – and may never do – but those we have, worked well.
