Having had a shed and garage rat problem that appears to emanate from my neighbour food and garden waste compost heap, I have used poison bait boxes in locations well away from my dog access and natural wildlife.
I wanted something that could be set in areas but would not be tripped by my dogs.
Admittedly I've not seen a rat for a while but still find droppings on occasions, so I'm not sure what to think. Maybe the poison bait has thinned out their numbers and that's why I haven't caught anything for four weeks of use.
The traps themselves are sturdy enough and appear well constructed as do the enclosure boxes which lock shut and open with a supplied key. Baiting the traps and setting them is easy, and the traps have a yellow sheath along the business end, this would be great if the box lids had a viewing slot cut in them like their mouse trap counterparts do, as it would make it visible through the box lid. One would then be able to see if the trap has been sprung without opening the box continuously. I have cut my own slot.
The trap is at 90° to the entrance holes and the sides of the trap will have to do the killing, I have no idea if this is a good or bad thing at the moment.
I'm hoping that my problem has been dealt with but only time will tell.
I have given four stars based on cost, construction quality and ease of use only.
